This month I'm sharing another of Engaging.io's #Culture Codes: Be Positive! Sometimes in life we’re asked to do things that are just plain wrong. Sometimes we’re asked to things that seem impossible. Anyone can say no to a request to do the impossible, but only a few ever make the effort to understand the elements of the ‘possible’ that exist within the request and find a solution to make them work. As a #HubSpot #Elite Partner we are in the solutions game and so like many businesses, it's our job to find ways to say yes when other people can't. Most of the time when someone asks you to do something that seemingly can’t be done, they know that this is the case. They’re asking (mostly) because they have someone asking them, or because they can’t think of an alternative solution themselves. Taking the time to understand their motivation, then working with them align their objectives with your own isn't easy, but it isn't rocket science. Unless your clients are rocket scientists, then it might be... We have 4 steps to providing clients with a positive experience: 1. Don’t just ‘react’ to things. Your initial response is unlikely to always be the best one. Take time to reflect, consider and evaluate the issue at hand. 2. Be empathetic. Put yourself in their shoes. Or sandals if it’s summer. 3. Think about consequences. Successful businesses have a great reputation. That takes time to build but can be lost in an instant. What clients say about you to the rest of the world makes a difference, so make sure they’re saying the right things because you're doing the right things. 4. Align your objectives. If any two parties have opposing objectives, there will always be conflict, disharmony and dischord. The only way to resolve that is to find a way to align the objectives of both parties. That may take some reframing, compromise or even moving of goal posts, but it is achievable and it is the only path to a harmonious relationship. Both in and out of work... #Engaging.io's Culture Codes are our user guide of how to live and breathe our values through our actions. If you want to know more, get in touch. 😀

I just took a fun power-personality test and apparently, I control🔥! (https://lnkd.in/gba4N-pQ) But did you know that organisations have personalities too?🤔 Edgar Schein (with Peter Schein) highlights in their book 'Organizational Culture and Leadership' that "culture is ultimately a characteristic of a group, just as personality and character are ultimately characteristics of an individual". Therefore, just as how we have personality tools that serves to typify personality and help us understand ourselves and others better, there are tools that through quantitative means, help to do likewise for organisations. In the infographic I've attached below⬇, you get to see some tools available today. Now, there are many tools out there, but for simplicity sake, I've only listed a few as examples. ❗DISCLAIMER❗ Though I really like the analogy of the island as it pertains to the depth of appreciation that each type of tool affords, I know that my 'assessment' of each tool according to how the islands are represented may not be fully accurate. But I guess my disclaimer serves to highlight the point of this post - do you really trust what personality tests say about you? Those who know me, know that I'm a rather cool guy, though I do aspire to be hot🔥#iykyk The point I'm highlighting is this: 🔥Different tools for different use - understand what you need before jumping on the next amazing tool out there. For e.g. archetype based tools are great for comparing with other organisations of the same archetype and dimensions based tools helps you build into a specific dimension. 🔥These tools are really helpful! But don't settle alone on what it tells you. Triangulate info from multiple sources such as from observations, inquiry, etc. to gain clarity. 1 last point! I was listening to a podcast where Aaron Dignan shared about how there is no such thing as a big company. Rather, big companies are made of multiple small companies under the same banner and shared principles. 🔥This just means that the aggregated results of the organisation may not reflect what is happening for each department or team. And that's ok! It may well mean that you might need to scope down to understand the individual sub-culture of each team. Hope this was insightful for you! Do check out my previous 3 posts on culture for an overview of what it is. Have a blessed weekend y'all!

Creating a great company culture isn't rocket science. It starts by knowing what your people need. It’s not bean bags, free beer, or a subscription to a meditation app. It is your daily actions and values that define your culture. Here is the ultimate sheet to build an indestructible company culture Applying Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and 9 fundamentals. Think about it in terms of your company: Basic Needs: Do your people have the essentials? Safety: Do they feel secure, trusted, and respected? Belonging: Can everyone be their true selves at work? Esteem: Do you recognise and appreciate their efforts? Self-actualisation: And give them chances to progress? When these needs are met, your company isn't just a place to work… It's a place where people thrive. Because building a great culture doesn't just happen. It takes consistent effort and action. Every day. Now go make it happen. Credit Chris Donnelly 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰! 𝟭. 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🔗https://lnkd.in/dRspHNmd 𝟮. Company Culture Consultant | Speaker. I help CEOs build happy, healthy, high-performing company culture by installing 5 results-focused systems.
After our recent 5 year celebration, we received a comment that perfectly aligned with our culture code. Before the event, a client responded to our newsletter about our 5 year anniversary and said: "Kristen, not only did you do it; you did it with grace and compassion. Congratulations!" When they arrived at the event and saw our culture code displayed, they gasped and said, "oh my gosh, there it is right there. Compassion. It's one of your culture code elements." Pictured is Nurturely Work's culture code displayed at our recent 5 year celebration that we're talking about. Over the past 5 years, we have helped businesses create their own version of a culture code. We have generated over 30+ individualized culture code elements by evaluating the company's values to curate a culture code specifically for their business. What is a culture code you ask? Culture is shared beliefs, values and practices within the company. The culture code sets expectations on how we treat each other. Our culture code is: We are grateful - We regularly express appreciation for the contribution and efforts of our colleagues We are at ease - Our work environment is free from stress and anxiety, and we are confident and comfortable with what we do. We are compassionate - We demonstrate empathy, understanding, and kindness towards one another, our clients, and ourselves. We are helpful - The ability to contribute brings us joy, whether we're going above and beyond for our clients or supporting one another as a team. We are innovative - We regularly exercise our creativity with flexibility and curiosity, and embrace new ideas with open arms. Does you company have a culture code? What are some of the elements if you don't mind sharing!

Creating high-performing teams to deliver results. Team Coach - Mentor - Coach - Non- executive Director
Growing Pains So, you've built a great company culture. Your team works well together, everyone understands the goals, and work actually feels... dare I say it... fun? But now you're growing. Fast. And you're worried that special feeling might get lost along the way. Take a deep breath. It's a common worry, but with some thought (and a lot of effort), you can keep what makes your company special as you grow. Here are some things to think about: ⭐Know What Makes You Special • What are the key values that define your company? • Which parts of your culture are non-negotiable? ⭐Hire People Who Fit In (But Don't Clone Yourself) • Look for people who share your values, not just skills • But remember, different viewpoints are important for new ideas. ⭐Make the Most of New Hires' First Days • Use this time to introduce new people to your culture from the start • Think about pairing new hires with experienced team members to help them settle in. ⭐Keep Talking (Yes, shocker!) • As you grow, casual chats become harder. How will you keep everyone informed? • Regular team meetings? Updates? Online chat groups? ⭐Set the Right Example • How you act sets the tone. Are you living up to your company's values every day? • Remember, what you do matters more than what you say! ⭐Adapt, But Keep Your Identity • Some things might need to change as you grow. That's okay. • The key is to grow while keeping what makes you special. ⭐Check In Regularly • Frequent quick checks on how happy and engaged your team is can spot problems early • Don't just ask - act on what you hear. Remember, keeping your culture as you grow isn't a one-time job. It needs ongoing attention. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? That's normal. Growing a business while keeping your culture intact is tricky. After all, your company culture is what makes you special. Don't lose it as you grow! #CompanyCulture #BusinessGrowth #LeadershipChallenges

Transformation Consultant: Leading and delivering large-scale change for top-tier companies. Keynote speaker on business change and transformation.
🌟 Excited to Announce Our Next Meetup Event! 🌟 Join us with Jenny for an inspiring discussion on April 25th at 18:30hrs (bst): "Go Beyond Nice: Unleashing Kindness for Team Flourishing and Success." Meet Jenny Martin, who brings a wealth of insight into the transformative power of kindness in the workplace. In this enlightening session, Jenny will delve into the critical role of kindness, debunking myths and showcasing its profound impact on innovation, productivity, and collective well-being. 😍 As someone deeply passionate about fostering positive work cultures, I believe that embracing kindness is not just a virtue but a strategic imperative. It's about creating environments where every individual can thrive. Let's challenge the misconception that kindness is a weakness. Instead, let's harness its potential to elevate our teams and organisations to new heights. 😓 This topic hits close to home for me. The detrimental effects of unkindness are toxic environments, stifled creativity, and diminished morale - and often are unspoken challenges we must confront head-on. Remember, it only takes one act of kindness to uplift a team, just as it only takes one act of unkindness to bring it down. 💥 Let's choose kindness. Let's choose success, together. Mark your calendars and join us for an event that promises to ignite meaningful change. Don't miss out! RSVP today to secure your spot. I'd also like to extend our thanks to Emily Turner from DevITjobs - UK & US for adding Agile Xpertise to their community pages here: https://lnkd.in/ezGdrznE #KindnessAtWork #TeamFlourish #WorkplaceWellbeing #LeadershipDevelopment https://lnkd.in/ejfauuBu

Result-oriented business development leader @ ASBIS | Driving Market Growth for consumer electronics brands
I count my lucky stars at ASBIS, where my daily grind involves collaborating with minds from 30+ countries. It's like a United Nations meeting, but with fewer suits 😉 Now, let's talk about my secret weapon for navigating this cultural diversity, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions Theory. This gem, gifted to me during my organizational behavior course at CEU Executive MBA, unfolds like a map through the cultural wilderness: 🌐 Power Distance Index (PDI): It's not a race, but some countries love their hierarchical sprints. Malaysia is like the Usain Bolt of power distance, while New Zealand is more of a democratic relay – passing the baton of power equality. 💼 Individualism vs. Collectivism: Think of it as the "I" in iPhone versus the "we" in group projects. Some cultures thrive on individual accomplishments, while others believe teamwork makes the dream work. 🎭 Uncertainty Avoidance (UAI): How well do you handle life's curveballs? This dimension reveals whether a society embraces the chaos or would rather schedule it into a spreadsheet. 🚀 Masculinity vs. Femininity: Not a battle of the sexes, but a dance of values. Some countries flex their assertiveness muscles (masculine), while others waltz to the tune of quality of life and compassion (feminine). 📅 Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation: Are you planning a weekend getaway or a 30-year business strategy? This dimension exposes a society's time horizon – from sprinters to marathoners. 🎉 Indulgence vs. Self-Restraint: Some places party like it's 1999, while others sip tea with the sophistication of a British royal. It's all about finding that balance between letting loose and keeping composure. Now, to save you from the abyss of theory-induced slumber, check out the country comparison tool at Hofstede's Insights: https://lnkd.in/dhmEyj7i. It's like Tinder, but for cultural compatibility – swipe right for a successful collaboration! The Culture Map has been one of my "go to" tools for years, to assess the culture in teams and organisations, and as a starting point and progress check when changing culture (and yes — it is possible to intentionally design and foster a new culture!) I love the speed, versatility and ease of use of the Culture Map. With it, I've uncovered so many interesting and unexpected insights about the teams and organisations I've used it with. In fact, so much so that I decided to write about a few of them... If you've used the Culture Map yourself, I'd love to hear what your experience has been like: love it, hate it, what worked, what didn't?
