"Fred, I might have a job for you. Can you fix bad-sounding audio? We're kind of desperate..." Sure, let me have a listen to it and I'll send you a sound bite showing what can be rescued. It always start the same, a client giving me a call, starting with an excuse why they ended up recording bad sound. No matter the reason, like not hiring a sound engineer to begin with or experiencing difficulties during the recording, the fact remains - something has to be done to fix the audio. With twenty years experience doing audio restoration / sound restoration, I have encountered one recording that was beyond repair - all the rest of the sound restoration projects I've done, I've been able to improve the sound quality to such level that the client was grateful. Yes, grateful not having to rerecord a webcast or conference or CEO monthly address to the employees. If you've found this post after nervously searching the Internet for answers, then take a deep breath and let me help you out. Here's what you're going to do: ✅ Create a minute of the wrecked audio recording, preferably as a WAV- or AIF-file, but any format will do. ✅ Email the sound clip to me at: freddan@ninjasound.se ✅ Include a description of what went wrong and how fast you need the job done. I will take a listen to it and do a thirty second sound repair - free of charge - showing what can be salvaged from the original recording. You have nothing to lose by contacting me, on the contrary, you have everything to gain, not having to scrap a project. You might think that the sound is beyond repair, but let me as a professional evaluate what can be done. I've salvaged web casts with CEOs when no sound engineer what present during recording, I've salvaged hybrid meetings / webcasts when no attention was given to the recorded sound and I've even done forensic sound analysis and noise reduction of recordings with delicate material. 100% listener's discretion guaranteed. So, how can I help you? #soundrestoration #audiorestoration #forensic #soundfix #noisereduction #declipping #denoising #badaudiocanbefixed

Sound editing begins at the location. 1. Get your levels right. - Adjust mic positions to get the best audio. - Do a quick sound check with the talent before you start recording. A traditional "count 1-10" would do, but building rapport as you mic them then keeping the conversation going as you work on your mixer levels works magic 2. Remove/ adjust from all possible noise Switch off anything producing unnecessary noise or advise the director to set up in a less noisy location. Don't fall for- "we can remove that in post" unless it's the only option. Always leave the location with the BEST SOUND THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RECORDED. View project on the link below. Project: GSMA- assistAll Recordist- Mathew Wamondo https://lnkd.in/deewKUaY Note: The mic is on the sign language interpreter which later on acted as the VO for the mute cast. What should I add on the list? What should we talk about next? #productionsoundmixer #CorporatedocumentarySound

🎛️ Want to find out more about audio post-production? 🔈Our forthcoming workshop is coming up next month. "By manipulating what you hear and how you hear it — and what other things you don't hear — you can not only help tell the story, you can help the audience get into the mind of the character." - Walter Murch, Apocalypse Now editor ℹ️There is no understating the importance of good sound quality in a film. Anything less distracts your audience and instantly lowers the quality of your film, no matter how much you've invested in the quality of the picture. Good quality sound engages your audience for longer, enhances your video and enriches your narrative. 📆This developed weekend course will give you a practical understanding of post-production audio. It will also improve your attention to sound in the planning and production stages. You’ll learn how to adapt your audio design strategies for bad takes, and how to work on your own mix to get your films sounding great. Get insights on location sound recording and improve your awareness of how best to capture audio for post-production. At the end of the weekend you’ll walk away with a solid foundation and understanding of sound design for the moving image. You are encouraged to bring along a project you are working on if there is something specific you would like to address. 📆Take part over the weekend on 18 and 19 May. 🔗Find out more here https://lnkd.in/gWqsBbBN

Adjust vocals so they blend with the mix If increasing the volume of your voices upsets the harmony but they still don't stand out sufficiently, you can try the following: • Make a second aux channel just for your voice. • On this aux, only leave the midrange. • Saturate it heavily, almost to distortion. • Mix to taste with dry signal. The brief was simple but came with no script, vision or direction: Create a piece of audio that demonstrates how a person is bombarded with audio from all directions over the course of a single day. "Your Day in Sound," basically. I ended up completely falling in love with this project with every new clip I added into the mix. Close your eyes and have a listen. It's less than two minutes. I will 100% guarantee what you see in your mind is different than every single other person that also listens to this piece. It truly is an example of the Power of Sound.
The Simplest, Yet Most Compelling Piece Of Audio I Ever Produced

I will tell you up front that while parallel compression is not a must in mixing, it is an invaluable instrument to have in your toolbox. Its goal is to improve the track's dynamics, punch, and sustain without compromising its organic feel. It works well for some genres or styles, particularly when you want the bass, drums, or vocals to be more prominent and detailed. But, you might still be able to create a well-balanced mix without it, depending on your mix aims. Although it's an optional method, knowing when and how to apply it can assist produce a more dynamic, polished sound. OPEN FOR BUSINESS Recording/Audio/Mix Engineer #alanilusi360

Creative, Art & Animation Director | Helping agencies and brands design exceptional stories for global impact.
Even in developing Birds & Shells, Audio is more important than video, in particular if creating something for a massive theatre screen; Audiovisual pieces are based on 2 main senses: Sight and Hearing, and yet, every once in a while, I get agencies or studios that prefer to use some pre-made anonymous tracks; I always recommend working with a composer and a sound design studio, not because I ll gain something from it, but because audio constitutes at least 50% of a good short film or commercial. Excluding audio from the equation means neglecting one of our primary channels of perception. These days, always more ppl watch videos without audio, due to the platform, device or situation, and at the same time I ve noticed (at least from the client I ve worked with) an increasing indifference regarding the “audio component”, something generally left for the very end of the production. The truth is that you can create a great piece using just still frames and a well crafted audio, but the reverse is way more complex. Audio is not an accessory; It convey emotions, drives attention, shows the unseen, manipulates the audience, give a sense of space, It is so critical that may completely influence the fate and impact of a project, so don't wait to the last few weeks of production to jump on it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Below a clip form The Guardian, with the audio beautifully crafted by Simon Smith from BCN sound #artdirection #creativedirection #motiongraphics #education #creativity
