Code Read, a youth-led nonprofit founded by Mackenzie Krestul in 2016, has donated 2,000 books to Canterbury Ave Elementary School in Los Angeles. The organization's mission is to provide access to literature for underserved youth in Los Angeles County, having already contributed over 50,000 new books to date. 'Every individual deserves to have books in their own home—books that resonate with them, igniting a passion for reading,' expressed Mackenzie Krestul, the visionary behind Code Read. The donation aligns with research highlighting the positive impact of book access on literacy rates, academic success, and fostering creativity among children. To celebrate the donation, Canterbury Ave Elementary students earned a free book fair hosted by Code Read on April 3rd. Each student will have the opportunity to select two new books and receive a book bag and other goodies, empowering them to choose their own reading material. With support from her siblings Jordan and Maddy, and mother Amanda, Mackenzie has spearheaded Code Read's efforts to bridge the book access gap. The nonprofit has received grants from organizations like The Nora Roberts Foundation and the Walmart Foundation. Code Read has launched a capital campaign to raise funds for a custom Bookmobile, aiming to expand its outreach to Head Start centers, children's hospitals, juvenile detention centers, and senior centers. @CodeRead's initiatives underscore the importance of equitable access to literature in fostering a love for reading and promoting literacy among underprivileged youth. #BookDonation #YouthLiteracy #EducationEquity

Woman in Product Management | Helping Tech Startup Founders Solve Product-related Problems with a Focus on Customer Needs & Business Growth
Out of all the causes I care about, children hold a special place in my heart, and here's why. There's something about their innocence, curiosity, and resilience that inspire me to do everything I can to support them and I believe that supporting children - both boys and girls - is crucial for building a better future for our world. On this Children's Day, I need to remind you that these children you see are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of our world. They have the potential to bring about positive change and make a significant impact. However, many children worldwide lack access to basic necessities like education, healthcare, and safety, hindering their growth and development, and ultimately affecting us all. So, what can we do today to support children worldwide? We can: • Donate to organizations providing educational resources and support to underprivileged children • Volunteer at local schools or organizations working with children • Advocate for policies prioritizing children's education and well-being • Mentor a child or young person in our community Whether you're a parent, educator, or simply someone who cares, every effort counts. P.S. Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below on how we can support children and ensure they receive the education they deserve. P.P.S. Repost to support a child. BEING PRESENT MATTERS. CIS knows that good attendance in school is critically important to student success. That’s why we are laser-focused on addressing chronic absenteeism. Brady, a CIS 6th grader, was missing too many days of school. His CIS Site Coordinator, Ms. Randolph, met with him to dig deeper and understand the root cause of his absences. She stressed to Brady the importance of being in school every day, and together they brainstormed ways he could improve his attendance. Ms. Randolph then drew up an “attendance contract” for Brady, holding him accountable by checking in with him each morning when he came to school. Brady’s small successes led to greater enthusiasm - soon he was proactively checking in with Ms. Randolph each day, proud to let her know that he was in school. Over the next semester, his attendance improved tremendously! The real reasons students miss school are often complex and misunderstood, ranging from transportation issues to mental health concerns, food or housing insecurity, or having to work or provide childcare for siblings. Students are often absent because the support and resources to address these challenges are often absent. CIS is present in schools every day, helping students like Brady with their attendance and any other obstacles keeping them from success. 👉With your donations, CIS can place Site Coordinators in schools to address students’ needs and ensure they show up for school, ready to learn! cischarlotte.org/donate #BeingPresentMatters #AttendanceMatters #inschoolseveryday #AllinforKids #WeekofGiving

🚨 North Texas Giving Day is here, and we need your help NOW! 🚨 As a board member of Readers 2 Leaders, the mission is incredibly personal to me, as many of you know, my son’s battle with reading and writing challenges came to head during the 2022-2023 school year, which lead to a dyslexia diagnosis in late 2023. My unwillingness to accept solutions as they were presented to me, showed me firsthand how crucial the right support is for a child's success. Without the resources and intervention that I insisted on as a parent, he would have been left behind—but today, thanks to the right tools and guidance, he’s thriving in school and beyond. 🙏🏽 But so many children don’t have the same access. 💔 That’s why I’m asking for your support—today. Every dollar raised goes toward ensuring students across Dallas, especially those from underserved communities, get the literacy support they desperately need. For minorities and those facing economic challenges, the opportunity gap in reading skills literally shapes their future. We know that students who read proficiently by 4th grade are 4-6 times more likely to graduate high school. Currently, only 43 percent of Dallas third graders read on grade level. We can change that, but only with your help! 📚 Help Unlock Brighter Futures Today! 🌟 Your donation to Readers 2 Leaders will directly impact children, like my son—who just needed the right resources to succeed. This isn't just about reading; it's about confidence, future opportunities, breaking down systemic barriers and creating a healthy future work force for all of our communities 🌎 ⏳ Time is ticking—donate today! Let’s make sure every child has the chance to become a reader, a leader, and a success story. Join me in making a difference, donate here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gp-QQYU5 📖 #DonateToday #Readers2Leaders #NorthTexasGivingDay #SupportLiteracy #EducationMatters #UrgencyForChange #CloseTheGap #ChangeMakers #EveryDollarCounts 💚

51% of K-12 students in Ohio identify as economically disadvantaged. In 2005, that number was only 35%. Many factors contribute to this disparity, and we could make thousands of points and posts about them. However, the truth is clear - many students do not have what they need to have a successful school experience. I remember that in the 2nd grade, we did not have lockers; we had hooks in the classroom. At the beginning of every school day, the teacher would take attendance. To do so, she would call us one by one from our desks to hang our backpacks on the far wall of the classroom. Some kids did not have a backpack, and this made that very obvious. As a 2nd grader, I didn't understand that when a peer didn't have a backpack, it may have been because their family could not afford one. Many students do not have the supplies they need to start on equal footing at the beginning of the year. The mission of the Tom Fennessy/Mike Harden Back to School Project is to help bridge this gap and create that equal footing. We are in the midst of our 2024 Backpack Drive to help ensure every student has what they need for the upcoming school year. We are a 100% volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization that serves students throughout Ohio. We are on track to fill 11,000 backpacks this year, and in our lifetime, we have donated over 200,000 backpacks to students in need. I have long-standing partnerships with my vendors, and I can purchase a backpack and all the supplies needed to fill it for $10.
