As we enter October, I'm reminded of the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together for a cause. This month marks the start of Hockey Fights Cancer, an initiative that unites the hockey community in support of cancer patients and their families. I'm proud to share that my son, Max, is participating in the "October Saves" challenge as part of this broader initiative. As the goalie for the Worcester Railers Mite Blue team, he's pledged to make 50 saves in 4 games this month, with each save raising funds for cancer research and patient support programs. This experience has taught our family valuable lessons: The importance of giving back to our community How sports can be a powerful vehicle for social good The resilience and determination of those fighting cancer every day I'm sharing this not just as a proud parent, but as a professional who believes in the power of purpose-driven initiatives. It's inspiring to see how organizations like the NHL and grassroots programs are leveraging their platforms to make a difference. If you're interested in supporting Max's effort or learning more about Hockey Fights Cancer, I've included a link Below. Every save, every share, and every donation brings us one step closer to our goal. Let's use our networks for good. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against cancer. https://lnkd.in/e-6bEXx7 #HockeyFightsCancer #OctoberSaves #CorporateSocialResponsibility #CommunityImpact #SportsForGood

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟 This month we are featuring Kalei Gregg! Kaeli is a junior at New York University double majoring in Journalism and Politics and serves as the University Club Chair for New York Dance Marathon. Keep reading to learn more about Kalei’s involvement and her dedication to the fight against childhood cancer 🎗️ Q: What inspired you to get involved with NYDM? A: After hearing Joe speak for the first time, I immediately knew NYDM was something I wanted to be a part of. It was so clear that NYDM and The B+ Foundation made a real difference for families fighting childhood cancer and I wanted to help in any way I could. 💜 Q: What is your best fundraising tip? A: Ask everyone you know, even if you don’t expect them to donate! You will be pleasantly surprised by how many people are willing to help. Never hesitate to ask! 💜 Q: What is the greatest lesson you've learned from your involvement with B+? A: The greatest lesson I’ve learned through my involvement with B+ has been seeing the power change when the NYU community comes together with a common goal. It has inspired me personally and been one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had during college. It’s real how our small acts of kindness and fundraising efforts can change lives. 💜 Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get more involved with B+? A: It doesn’t matter who you are on campus, we want you to join our B+ family. Anyone interested should attend B+ events, and start hanging out with B+ Heroes. Interacting with B+ Heroes is the most meaningful way to make a difference in both your life and theirs.

In just a few short weeks I’ve raised $2,300 for LLS with a goal to raise $10,000 before Light The Night on October 26th. While this might seem like just a small piece of the $1.7 billion LLS has invested in cancer research, my goal has the potential to provide an impact in multiple ways. What we raise in the next few days can make a year-long impact for blood cancer patients struggling with the cost of cancer. I’d ask that you consider making a donation to support my efforts to raise funds for LLS a donation. Here is how your donation has the potential to make a difference: $500 helps fund one week of LLS-sponsored group support for families dealing with blood cancer treatment. $1000 provides financial assistance for non-medical expenses, including rent or mortgage, utilities, dependent care, food, and car repairs, related to treatment to a pediatric or young adult patient through our Urgent Need Program. $2,500 helps fund the cost of nurses providing patients and parents/caregivers with clinical trial search navigation and support through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Clinical Trial Support Center. If you are available, please join me on October 26th for the Light the Night Walk! I would greatly appreciate your support as we lead into the final few weeks before we Light The Night on Saturday, October 26th! You can make a tax-deductible contribution through my link, https://lnkd.in/gVejDsWb.

#NoNFNovember This post is part of the #NoNFNovember campaign to raise awareness and funds to end NF. Follow along here every day in November at 4pm ET for a new post to share. ***** "Being someone who doesn’t accept failure, who is determined to never break, and let’s face it, is quite stubborn, the hardest thing is accepting that no matter how hard I try, no matter how determined I am, I will never be free of the scars NF has and continues to create. Now, I could take this as a reason to give up, but why? I’m resilient remember. This means that no matter the challenge or how hard I must work, nothing can stop me. All my life, I’ve lived by setting goals, and since my diagnosis at age nine, that hasn’t changed. What has changed is how strong I am, how willing I am to adapt, and my ability to stand up after falling (which, with my ambitions, happens a lot). When I started high school, all I dreamed about was my future successes: being accepted into my dream college, going on to obtain my master's degree, and eventually my PhD. What I didn’t expect was participating in a clinical trial my sophomore and junior years, or the two brain surgeries I had during my senior year. Well, I think we can all agree that is pretty unfair, but I was unwilling to give up; determined to show everyone that the girl they thought would never make it to college the next year, would do so, going on to graduate at the top of her class with the dream of studying NF2. Fast forward to now, 2 brain surgeries later, newly deafened and facing a new reality of silence. Despite this, that same girl is soon to graduate with a master’s degree with hopes of pursuing a PhD in the future. Two goals I’ve had and NF didn’t stop me… and it never will."
