My Flying Experiences Gate Lice Have you heard of it? One of my pet peeves of flying, is managing my emotions whilst waiting to board my flight. The sight of my fellow passengers, waiting around the gate leaves me feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated. (My Highly Sensitive Person, has an intense fear of being around large crowds.) I would be the last one to board, if it was down to my decision. Why the fu*k would you want to be the first to board a flight, unless you’re flying business or first class, then be stuck in a wee tin can longer, than you absolutely need to? It doesn’t make any sense to my logical brain. 🧠 If you are claustrophobic, you would be able to relate, to my logic, of boarding as late as possible. On smaller, single aisle planes, aka narrow body planes, there is a need to board as soon as you possibly can, in order to get a space in the overhead compartment, to fit your carry on luggage. These airlines have never allowed me to stow my carry on luggage at my feet, or under the seat in front of me. On larger, double aisle planes, aka wide body planes, such as the Boeing 777, A330, A350 and A380, I stow my carry on luggage, at my feet, or under the seat in front of me. This way, I can easily gain access to my belongings, instead of standing up and reaching into the overhead compartment. I’m a “wee shortie” meaning I am short, so I have to tip toe, to reach the overhead compartment, to gain access to my belongings. Whilst it is great exercise, to stretch my arms, it can be annoying and frustrating, as space is limited, in a wee tin can. You have your fellow passengers to consider, as they want to get past you, or they are also reaching into their belongings, in the same compartment. Then, there are the flight attendants, who are wheeling the drinks and food trolley, so you are restricted. Is it any wonder why, flying is absolutely exhausting, before you reach your destination? 😞🥲😤😡🥵😴🥱😬 Do you board your flight as soon as possible, or do you board as late as possible? Asking for a friend 🤣🤣🤣 #gatelice #travelling #boardingyourflight https://lnkd.in/gVqbHjdK

Guest Experience Fail. I get it. Airlines need to make money and you get what you pay for. And when you book jetstar/easyjet and the likes don’t be surprised… But even a low cost offering can show care and kindness (and some common sense). Offering good guest service starts with those principles and don’t cost you anything. Being flexible and empowering your teams to take decisions will eliminate this from happening. And maybe a low cost offering can actually offer a great guest experience, too. Imagine the competitive advantage!
