On BBC Focus on Africa, I discussed issues shaping the current protest in Senegal and potential outcomes. Can election hold on 25th of February? That is very unlikely and remains and uphill task. Can the president exit on April 2nd? This may happen if there is a sustained external pressure coupled with intense non-violent protests on the home front. Will Senegalese democracy weather the present storm? I am absolutely convinced this is a temporary test and that the country’s democracy will triumph through the resilience of the people. Alarmists have gone to the street and imagined the worst can happen considering the wider democratic upset in the subregion. My reading of events, power structure (traditional and modern) suggests the contrary. My section is within the first 14 minutes
