Imagine a healthcare facility bustling with patients, yet every smile you see from the staff is genuine, not forced. I once volunteered with a healthcare organization that was determined to expand its services. We faced numerous challenges, from managing increased patient loads to ensuring our staff remained motivated and satisfied. It was an intense period, but the lessons learned were invaluable. We introduced a data-driven approach to measure our impact. By leveraging patient feedback, staff surveys, and clinical outcomes, we could see where our efforts were making a real difference. For instance, our innovative patient follow-up system drastically reduced readmission rates. We introduced a data-driven approach to measure our impact. Why is acknowledgment of National Patient Recognition Important? Let's take a look 👀 A. It reinforces confidence in the healthcare system "National Patient Recognition Week is important in reinforcing patients’ confidence in the healthcare service sector. The week aims to encourage increased sensitivity and impact on patient care by all healthcare practitioners in the country." B. It recommits doctors to better service delivery "It is not uncommon for doctors and other healthcare service professionals to face burnout and even lose interest in delivering top-notch service after attending to an ever-increasing number of patients daily. National Patient Recognition Week helps healthcare service professionals refocus their interest and attention on the patients with the ultimate goal of improving their overall experience." C. It promotes understanding of patients’ health history "One of the premises for the week is to promote the culture of emphasizing patient satisfaction through empathy. The week is meant to serve as the time when professionals in healthcare commit greater attention to patients and deliver exceptional service." Information is from: https://lnkd.in/g4C-gkX4

Most Maine hospitals struggle to be profitable; patients are forgoing care because they can’t afford it; and employers are just about tapped out on how many more dollars they can devote to employee benefits. It seems like the healthcare system isn’t working for anyone, so what can we possibly do? Nearly a year of collaboration with our Maine hospital systems to understand their delivery system finances has taught us that there’s no easy answer. The movement of dollars through the system is complicated (understatement of the year!), and no two hospitals systems are the same. Despite this understanding, though, we do believe that there are steps every hospital can take to improve the value of our healthcare system. At our upcoming event on June 6th, Steve Littleson, CEO of Central Maine Healthcare, will help us better understand the challenges facing our state’s hospitals, and our keynote speaker, Dr. Peter Pronovost, will outline the opportunity and strategy for making hospital care safer and more affordable for everyone. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this issue that impacts all Mainers and think about how we can work together towards a better solution. Register here: https://lnkd.in/ghYh2x7G

Reading #MedicalNihilism by Jacob Stegenga in my opinion is essential for those of us passionate about providing the best possible care. As healthcare professionals, and hospital leaders we strive to base our decisions on solid evidence and deliver effective, compassionate treatments and patient care to our patients. Stegenga’s book is a reminder to approach this goal with humility and a critical eye. Three of my key takeaways: 1. Don’t overestimate Effectiveness. 2. Bias in Research: Strife for transparency and critical evaluation of evidence. 3. Conservatism: we sometimes have to emphasize the importance of “less is more” in patient care. Reading this book reminds me that humility is essential in healthcare; even with the best intentions, we must constantly reevaluate our practices to ensure we are truly serving the best interests of our patients.
