🛠️ How I tripled the print speed on a Modix in Seattle - Part 3/3 When 3D enthusiasts are let to roam free for an evening, things can happen... Me and Tim Escolin were talking for a bit and suddenly we had an idea, a solution and a sketch for a sneaky problem. They've had problems with insufficient cooling of the plastic immediately after printing. This led to the parts sometimes being distorted or lacking the necessary strength and precision. We designed a new component to mount dual fans and improve air control around the newly printed plastic. The part is adapted for the Griffin High-Flow print head which uses a Super Volcano - which enables high volume prints with excellent cooling. 🛠 How? To create this part, we combined Rhino and Fusion360 to get the best of both software. We used topology optimization to maximize strength and stability while minimizing weight. The result was an interesting and relatively light, but stable solution that handled the cooling needs effectively. 👉 In this way, we were able to reduce distortions and improve the precision of the prints. 👉 The double fan configuration enabled the print speed to triple to 80mm³/sec without compromising on quality.
