Daniel is right. Weight was already an issue, but it was not that important in the past. Perhaps in an airplane or something that had to have less weight. Nowadays weight is becoming an issue. More material is more weight and CO2, or you waste a lot of material to get a light part. There are many parts in a construction that do not support heavy structures, only need to hold something or connect other parts, and no force is applied to it. So we can give it less weight, think of the parts shown in this video. Designing them is a lot of work, or you can use the software as Daniel shows. It creates geometry where you can tell on forehand how it's made. If you want to mill it, you get another part as when you want to 3D print it. But both parts have the same function, connections, can bear the same weight. If you want to know more, you know where you can find me. We do a lot of 3D printing as well at Visiativ.
