Just got charged a 10% surcharge for a take-away coffee at a local coffee shop. Was not told there’d be a surcharge and there was no signage at the POS. When I asked, she said because the eftpos fees we get charged are very very high… 🤔 not that high! I asked for a refund; on principle, I won’t pay that much surcharge for a takeaway coffee. But I would pay that amount on Sunday or public holiday for table service. Surcharging is getting messy with public / Sunday trading getting conflated with cost of acceptance. Businesses are feeling the pressure of rising costs and need to manage their cost of goods sold. It’s a balance though… I won’t go back to that cafe again… #surcharge #sme #cash #cardpayments #merchant #eftpos

It feels like there’s a fee frenzy out there. Additional charges here, and there… consumers just want to know what they’re being charged, and why. Where are these fees coming from? 💰 It’s getting a lot more expensive to run a business. Many of the fees being tacked on today — like a restaurant service fee, or a charge for using a credit card instead of paying in cash — exist just to cover the operator’s costs. 💰💰 The “frenzy” is largely fed by third party providers. Most of the “hidden” fees you see come from services like delivery, personal shopping, and subscriptions — like ASAP or long-distance delivery, service fees, regulatory fees, and more. Read more about why prices have gotten so high, and what retailers can do to rebuild trust with skeptical, wallet-conscious consumers 👇 https://bit.ly/45MQBlN #inflation #pricingstrategy #profitability

Over the last few years, as food, labor and property costs have increased, the trend of surcharging has emerged to help offset the cost of accepting credit cards. But what some merchants don’t know is that there are specific rules regarding surcharges that need to be followed. And there are serious consequences for not following them.

What came first, the chicken or the name for a payment product that gets your chicken delivered faster? You've probably been on a line for service, gritting your teeth while the agent asks a caller for the fourth time to "please repeat the last numbers... you're breaking up." Or apologizing because "sorry, the machine wasn't connected. Let's have your credit card number again?" "RangUp and hang up." Chicken and egg. Born together, made for each other. RangUp is a UK-based service that speeds up over-the-phone transactions. Whether that's ordering fast food, booking a flight or paying a bill, as soon as you're ready to pay, the agent thanks you and activates a text link for you to complete payment correctly and securely. Some things that went into suggesting this name: ♣ In British English, "ring up" means "calculate for payment," as in "ring up your bill at the till" ♣ Past-tense "rang," communicates speed and done-ness ♣ Oh, absolutely, the RangUp and Hang Up slogan was begging to be born Are you more comfortable SAYING your credit card number—possibly loud and repeatedly on a city bus during rush hour—or TYPING it quickly and correctly after confirming your order? #WordsHaveFeelings

Senior Business Development Manager @ Blackhawk Network | Rewards, Incentives, Rebates & Disbursements
I'm sure the topic of food n' fuel prices will be brought up in tonight's Presidential debate a million times. When you hear those words, think of me and how I can support your incentives/rewards needs! Perfect timing to incorporate a physical or virtual prepaid card specifically filtered to be redeemed at businesses categorized as supermarkets, grocery stores, gas stations and convenience stores. A Food n' Fuel reward card gives the cardholder much greater choice on where to redeem than individual retail gift cards. Operators are standing by. Well, not really, but my inbox is. oh, and the virtual card version is #mobilewallet enabled for in-store #mobilepayments #inflation #presidentialdebate #presidentialelection #rewards #incentives #loyalty #giftcards #points #debate #economy #employeeengagement #payments #payouts #disbursements #employeerewards
