A memo to Creative Directors, Account Handlers and Clients. Dear Creative Directors, If your ad looks like the client made it, then your creativity is not being allowed to soar. You did not get to this level by coloring in the lines, but by drawing new lines. Remember this and fight for GREAT ideas, not just to win the argument! Dear Account Handlers, If you are not contributing to the client's business and pushing the envelope, then you are missing the point. Your job is to elevate the client's business through the SMART messaging developed by your creative team. Simply sharing layouts and returning with illogical amends is something a simple email can do, but driving a brand forward and being a brand custodian is what an account handler does. Dear Client, You have business objectives, its the agency's job to work on communication objectives. The fact that you understand agency terminology does not mean you are a creative director....otherwise, you are in the wrong job! What sparked these memos is this. "Don't buy the drill - Buy the hole." Theodore Levitt.

Social media management is an individual skill... just like graphic design, video editing, writing, digital strategy, data analysis, crisis comms, marketing, and photography are their own things. But somehow, we’ve rolled all those skills into the catch-all title of "social media manager." #socialmediamanager #socialmedia

Brilliant work by McCann Bristol with their employer brand ad. This ad is a lesson in clear, impactful messaging. It shows the power of visual storytelling for employer branding. Communicators: Stand up for your expertise. Don’t let anyone diminish your contributions.
A friendly public service announcement for those tempted to ask a communication professional to, “Make it pretty.” While the intention behind saying “make it pretty” may be good, here's what we gather from it: -A fundamental misunderstanding of our expertise -Diminishment of the value we bring to the organization -Disrespect for us and our profession that no, not anyone can do Instead of asking us to “make it pretty,” use one of these phrases instead: -"Could I leverage your communication expertise on this one?” -“I’m not sure this content is going to have the desired result with the audience. Could I ask you to take a look and make some recommendations?” And a quick clarification: Our role isn’t about designing PowerPoints. Our focus is on ensuring the right messages reach the right audiences at the right times and in the right way to achieve desired results. If you need design assistance, talk to a graphic designer. And please don’t ask them to “make it pretty” either. #CommunicationProfessionals #EffectiveCommunication #StrategicCommunication

When thinking about your company today, consider these questions: ✓ What’s your ultimate goal/mission? Where do you want to be? ✓ What gap do you see between where you are now and where you want to be? ✓ How are you spending your time? Do you enjoy how you spend your time? The right marketing support — whether it be PR, graphic design, or content — can help you bridge that gap. Our team is here to make it happen for you. #pragency #publicrelations #graphicdesign #contentmarketing

We can make the strategy pretty, but we bring more to the table than making slides pretty. We can make the message, the reach, the, adoption, story and more effective. While design and visuals are an integral part of comms, this is an excellent reminder.
