More good news coming from European Green Transition where this morning we have agreed an exclusive option agreement to investigate the potential to develop a peatland carbon sink programme, which could in turn generate valuable carbon credits. The deal allows #EGT to perform due diligence at the Altan farm in #Donegal, an area that - you might expect - is very close to my heart. The Altan carbon credit generation project has the potential to be one of Ireland’s first peatland carbon sink projects, and could also be the first step in a business model of both generating and trading carbon credits that could be scaled up in the years and months ahead. https://lnkd.in/gFXhUgy7 The Nyunga Families of the Gawler Ranges have given AiCarbon the green light in a landmark Community Benefits Agreement that launches a number of landscape carbon projects on pastoral stations across the northern Eyre Peninsula. Following the announcement, Chair of the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corporation, Dr John Binda Reid, said “the sharing of intelligence and benefits that emerge from this reciprocal arrangement can be an exemplar model that provides learnings to other Native Title groups to allow exploration and exploitation of resources to occur in their traditional lands”, Dr Reid stated. The enormous scale of the projects, involving the regeneration of native forest in areas totalling roughly 350,000ha, further cements AiCarbon as South Australia’s foremost carbon development firm and it effectively establishes carbon as a primary industry from which regional SA communities will benefit for decades to come. European Green Transition PLC (AIM:EGT) told investors it has entered an exclusive option agreement for a carbon credit project at Altan farm in Donegal, Ireland. It grants the AIM-quoted firm a 12-month period for due diligence on the potential carbon sink program, across a 1,370-acre site primarily comprising blanket peatland. The project aligns with the company’s strategy of targeting green economy assets that offer revenue potential, EGT said. The company plans to generate carbon credits through a revenue-sharing model with the landowner, minimising capital expenditures. It would mirror successful projects in Scotland, where peatland re-wetting has been effectively implemented. Carbon Green Investments, the company behind the controversial Kariba REDD project, says it will withdraw the project from Verra's registry. The question should be, how did Verra allow the project to remain on its registry for so long? A few more questions: Why did Verra's auditors not notice the project's massive overestimate of carbon credits? Or the dodgy, unaccounted money flows? While we don't do what we do for the accolades, it was nice to get some kudos yesterday to be recognized as one of Canada's top cleantech companies by the Canada's Clean50 program for our Cypher Green Roads initiative. Making it even more special was the fact that we were recognized for a particular Green Roads project with B2Gold Corp. at their Fekola operation in Mali, West Africa - our first successfully executed Green Roads project on the continent. Why is that so special? We actually came up with the idea for Cypher Green Roads during a Mining Suppliers Trade Association Canada - MSTA CANADA trade mission to Namibia, while visiting the B2Gold Otjikoto site a few years ago. I was astonished at how they set the bar high for all other industry by the significant amount of community engagement and conservation efforts they voluntarily undertook. It made us believe we could also give back more than just making our customers more sustainable through the use of Cypher products, by enabling the sharing of best cleantech practices between the mine (or any industrial customer) and the community - and Cypher Green Roads was born! So it was only fitting that our first Green Roads project in Africa was with B2Gold! A big congrats to the entire Cypher and B2Gold teams - this is a prime example of how two separate entities can collaborate to do good in communities around the world, helping to educate and raise awareness that better ways to do things do exist, to help solve common problems that plague communities today, regardless of their geographical location. One of the factors to receive a Top Project award is that it is easily imitated. As carbon removal scales up, project developers need a clear understanding of what EJ is and how to best center it in their projects. Today, there are still industry-wide gaps around community engagement, project transparency, and trust-building. DOE's recent Responsible Carbon Management Initiative could be a huge step towards addressing these challenges, helping companies create projects that are trustworthy and a direct benefit to communities. The Carbon180 team responded to DOE's RFI for their new Initiative with recommendations on how to inject procedural, distributive, and reparative justice across their Principles, including adding two new principles on community self-determination and accountability.
