An Olympic flame that’s not a flame at all. Every Olympic host city has a few basic tasks that force it to straddle the line between acknowledging the tradition of the Games while showing that it is keeping up with the times. Essentially, each new host needs to play the hits but still surprise and delight the listeners. That’s how you end up, for example, with an opening ceremony featuring a nearly nude man on a bridge, covered in blue paint and glitter. A fair amount of unqualified noise has surrounded #Paris2024 Olympics as "the most sustainable ever". As Mettle Capital always says... context is essential, both absolute and relative. 🥉 In absolute terms, #Paris2024 is edging towards the previous peaks before the 2022 Beijing Winter Games and 2020 Tokyo Summer Games although that is only just about net positive in terms of sentiment. 🥈 In relative terms, the Olympics trails the #NBA (basketball), is on par with #EUFA (European football), and outperforms #FIFA (world football). 🥇 So the answer is... the #Olympics is perceived as just about positive on sustainability but no more than previous games.
