This is one of the most complex challenges a manufacturing site can have under the pest control program. Upon the location of the site, its infrastructure and nature of products, deterring birds can be challenging. The key point for bird deterrence is to make the birds " feel uncomfortable" . In my experience I have used; gas air guns with timers that create loud noises on the ares where birds roost , this helps minimize bird presence in some key areas, for large birds like vultures, add thin nylon fishing type wires to the structures where they like to land by using plastic poles to hold the wires ,the vultures cannot land on the wires, use spikes for large pray birds on flat surfaces where they used to land. Reduce food spills on the patios, roofs, etc. A key challenge is that birds are resilient an can adapt to the countermeasures , it is a dynamic process. Be sure to have an adequate budget for bird control. This article provides valuable guidance for bird control. Again each site will have unique challenges.

SSP Samir Noor Chana of Ghotki district has issued a significant directive aimed at curbing criminal activities, particularly related to smuggling and robbery along highways. The directive specifies the prohibition of sugarcane and banana cultivation within a five hundred meters radius of both the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and National Highways. The decision underscores the necessity to clear these crops within a half-kilometer stretch along these crucial transportation routes. This measure aims to eliminate potential hiding spots for criminals who exploit the dense foliage of such crops for illicit activities. SSP Ghotki highlights the correlation between dense vegetation along highways and criminal activities, emphasizing that thick crops serve as ideal breeding grounds for criminal elements. Notably, criminals often exploit sugarcane and banana fields as convenient hideouts after engaging in unlawful activities along the highways. To enforce this directive, SSP Smirnoor Chana has instructed farmers and landowners through police officers and officials to refrain from planting sugarcane and banana crops within the designated proximity to motorways and national highways. This proactive approach is envisioned to disrupt criminal operations and enhance overall security along these vital transportation arteries.

When we think of agricultural farms, images of peaceful, sprawling fields, bountiful crops, and hard-working farmers come to mind. What we often overlook are the hidden vulnerabilities that make these serene settings prime targets for theft and vandalism. In an age where security is a top priority for businesses of all kinds, agricultural farms are no exception. Ensuring robust onsite security is crucial not only for protecting valuable produce but also for safeguarding the livelihood of farmers and the integrity of the food supply chain. These days; if you are relying only on chemicals for weed management, you are adopting the risk of putting all your eggs in a paper basket. If it rains, you are left with a mess. This year, it has rained a lot... Spring 2024 saw 301.7mm of rainfall, exceeding the annual average by a whopping 32%. Several councils have blamed this for excessive levels of weeds. - Cheshire West and Chester Council was recently in the press for their excessive weeds. They were blaming the weather saying "weed spraying operations have been challenging as the team had to wait for a 24-hour period of dry weather to allow for the chemical to work". If an integrated weed management strategy had been adopted, they would have other tools at their disposal to get the job done despite the rain. Weed brushes, hot air, hot water and electricity are all able to get on and work when chemicals can't be used. If a preventative approach had been adopted, rather than a reactive one, they could further mitigate the risk, reducing the impact that many missed days of weeding has had.

The agricultural sector “lags behind others” in safeguarding against data and response fraud. Data accuracy and collection methods are second only to excellent research design. With big commissions, conversations and consultations established to ensure that the industry is moving in the right direction, the sector must move with the times to combat some of the more pressing issues in market research on bias, data fraud and results interpretation. Abi Kay at Farmers Weekly discussed the threats and risks to researching farming opinions accurately with our Director Clare Otridge a few weeks ago following concerns that the Farm Assurance Review was not protected to the level it needed to be from survey fraud.
