SMA Uses Innovative Heat Pumps to Produce its Climate-Friendly Energy Supply The new energy supply for two SMA buildings was completed just in time for the last heat wave. Modern heat pumps supply an office building, the electronics production area and the research and development area, replacing the outdated combination of a biogas combined heat and power plant and refrigeration unit. The reversible heat pumps use natural refrigerant and can heat as well as cool. They save around 1,600 megawatt hours of gas per year, making a considerable contribution to decarbonizing SMA‘s energy supply. “The sustainable use of energy is a key aspect of SMA’s sustainability strategy. By using the new […] Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dThXAKDJ #solarenergy #alternativeenergy #solarpv #pvsolar #photovoltaic #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatechange #energysupply #germany #heatpumps #renewableenergy #sma #solarenergy #sustainability

⚡️How can technology and innovations help satisfy increasing energy demand while moving to sustainability? As we move through the Sustainability Month, we've discussed the topic with Safira de Witte, Manager Sustainability CSR at Budget Thuis, and Oleksii Rebrov, Tech Lead at Globaldev and Bliq. Here are short theses from our session: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 Transitioning from fossil fuels to a sustainable energy future requires significantly increasing renewable energy sources. Solar and wind power are emerging as frontrunners in this shift. Most of the renewable capacity additions are expected to be solar. The Netherlands is a prime example, witnessing a rapid increase in solar panel installations. Over two million households have embraced solar power, positioning the country as a European leader in solar generation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 The surge in renewable energy can strain existing grid infrastructure. Battery storage can help to balance supply and demand by storing excess power generated from renewable sources while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Bliq's app enables more effective energy management and utilization of available capacity. By aggregating data from the energy market, Bliq helps optimize battery charging and discharging and ensures that they operate at the right time to maximize their benefits. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 By connecting their home batteries to Bliq's network, households can contribute to energy balancing, support grid stability, and benefit from the economic advantages of participating in the energy market. What is the most important factor driving the shift to renewable energy: new technology, policy, or consumer behavior? Share your thoughts in the comments 👇🏼 #sustainability
