“His songs got me through every difficult moment in my 20s.” Ahead of the world premiere of 'It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley' today at Sundance Film Festival, Director and Documentarian Amy Berg – whose previous works include Oscar-nominated ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ and ‘The Case Against Adnan Syed’ – spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her commitment to creating this moving portrait of the ’90s singer-songwriter. Told through never-before-seen footage and intimate accounts from the three women who knew him best, the film illuminates one of the most influential and enigmatic figures in modern music. Jeff Buckley, a rising star with an otherworldly voice, left the music world reeling when he died suddenly after the release of his debut album. The title of the film is borrowed from a lyric in 'Lover, You Should’ve Come Over,' and according to THR, is "intended in part as a reference to Buckley’s ongoing fandom." Berg commented: “I wanted to speak to him in the title: ‘We’re still here, we’re still rooting for you.’ ” 'It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley' is directed by Amy Berg, and produced by Topic Studios, Amy Berg, Mandy Chang, Matthew Roozen and Jennie Bedusa. Oughta dust off the update of my award-winning student film: THE PROPHET NOSTRADAMUS - via Music adaptation of Al Stewart’s eponymous tune from Past Present Future - https://lnkd.in/gSFJnsC Nostradamus' prophecies have long captivated those seeking insights into future events. With the ongoing political tensions and high-stakes electoral contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, it's intriguing to imagine how Nostradamus might have alluded to such events in his quatrains. A Modern Interpretation of Nostradamus’ Predictions In the shadow of the eagle, a great division shall arise, The leader of old battles shall return with fervor, Clashing voices of the realm shall echo, And the future shall hang on a trembling balance. Quatrain I-89: A time of tumult shall be seen, Two heads contesting for the crown, One of past dominions, fierce and keen, The other with words of healing, renown. Quatrain II-45: A house divided, cries of the people heard, In the land of the free, the struggle persists, From the East, whispers of conflict stirred, Yet hope lies in unity, if wisdom exists. Quatrain III-76: The warrior returns with a mighty claim, Past glories fueling his quest anew, But the healer stands, firm in name, A nation’s fate, split by the view. Quatrain IV-23: Beneath the banner of stars and stripes, A new epoch shall dawn or doom, For the victor’s path, many types, But truth and justice shall loom. Quatrain V-12: The old lion roars with the strength of the past, Yet the dove seeks peace in the fray, In this duel, only one shall last, Guiding the land to a brighter day. In these verses, Nostradamus might have foreseen the fierce competition and contrasting visions represented by Trump and Biden, symbolizing broader societal divisions. The imagery of an eagle, a divided house, and references to both conflict and potential unity reflect the ongoing struggle and the critical nature of their contest in shaping the future.

I've been rewatching Get Back, the '8 hours of rehearsal footage' Beatles documentary. 👨👨👦👦 Couldn't help but plot leapday's PLAYER acronym over the way they worked together. 1. Prepare the field 🏠 The shift in energy when they move from Twickenham Studios to Apple Studios is monumental. As George says, Apple 'feels like home'. In Twickenham they felt on display. 2. Lower the stakes 😜 Despite giving themselves a crazy deadline, a lot of the time seems to be spent goofing around. Even as those around them try to create a sense of urgency, the Beatles themselves are relaxed and at play. 3. Allow for surprises 😳 We see Paul start playing his guitar, hoping to surprise himself with whatever comes out. Two minutes later he has the hook for their next single, Get Back. Similarly, there are wonderful moments of relinquishing control, like when Paul allows Mal the roadie to comment on the lyrics to 'Long and Winding Road'. 4. Yes! Be positive 👏 When Ringo plays a snippet of his new song 'Octopus's Garden' for George, it's tongue in cheek, but instead of dismissing the song George accepts it as a real idea and works with Ringo on the chords. 5. Expand on ideas 🤝 They bring in ideas from every potential avenue, including unused early songs like 'One after 909', which ends up on the album. They also spend a lot of rehearsal time playing covers, despite the impending deadline. Most importantly, they take each other's ideas and suggest ways to make them bigger. 6. Reflect and acknowledge 🤔 As the album comes together, they are open with each other when they feel that it's going well. If you're interested in group creativity, I don't think there's a better documentary.

New Post: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ ending: where does it leave Wade and Logan? - https://lnkd.in/gyphiS5j - Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman form a dynamic duo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Set six years after events in Deadpool 2, the film sees Wade Wilson (Reynolds) pulled out of retirement by the Time Variance Authority for a new mission to save the universe with Wolverine (Jackman). READ MORE: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ review: a sarky, time-skipping superhero send-up Directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy), the superhero sequel is the first Deadpool film set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe after 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney. Other cast members include Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Paradox, while Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, and Karan Soni reprise their roles from previous Deadpool outings. What happens at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine? Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. Credit: Disney/Marvel Studios As Cassandra Nova threatens to destroy the multiverse using the Time Ripper, Deadpool and Wolverine manage to successfully shut it down by working together to divert the energy blasts. As the Time Ripper explodes, Cassandra Nova is destroyed. Despite it being billed as a joint sacrifice to save the multiverse, the duo are, in fact, perfectly alive. As Dr. Paradox is imprisoned for his crimes against the Time Variance Authority, Wade and Logan get some shawarma, only to be greeted by Dogpool, who has made it out of the Void and is now residing in Earth-10005. As Logan tells Wade he won’t be sticking around, we later see the opposite is true, as Wade introduces him to his roommate Blind Al. Logan and the rest of Wade’s friends are all then seen hanging out together in his apartment, showing he’s now part of his inner circle. While the pair’s future role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unclear, they end the film, at least, seeing eye-to-eye as friends. Is there a post-credits scene? After the credits have rolled, there’s one small scene where Deadpool, in the offices of the Time Variance Authority, sets out to prove he’s not the one responsible for Johnny Storm’s (Chris Evans) death after being accused of putting words in his mouth. Deadpool plays back the footage from when him, Wolverine, Johnny are locked in a cage earlier in the film, only with previously unseen dialogue where Johnny insults Cassandra Nova in very graphic detail – proving that Deadpool was telling the truth all along. Part 4 of our Evolution of Video journey takes us to a game-changing moment: The Vitaphone! 🎬 On August 5, 1926, this bad boy debuted at a screening of "Don Juan" in NYC, finally cracking the code on syncing sound with film. Imagine trying to perfectly match a massive 16-inch disc with a movie projector. Mind-blowing stuff for 1926! Fun fact: While many people think "The Jazz Singer" (1927) was the first film with synchronized sound, "Don Juan" actually beat it to the punch by over a year! Though "Don Juan" only had synchronized music and effects, no dialogue - that's where "The Jazz Singer" made its mark. Curious about more video history? Check out Parts 1-3 on our profile! ⏪

New Post: ‘Attack On Titan’ film ‘The Last Attack’ drops new trailer - https://lnkd.in/gGJ72YtP - The trailer for the new Attack On Titan film has dropped – check it out below. READ MORE: ‘Attack On Titan: The Final Chapters (Part 2)’ review: the battle of Heaven and Earth Entitled Attack On Titan The Movie: The Last Attack, it is set to be made up of the show’s two final chapters from the concluding season. Adapted from the manga by Hajime Isayama, the series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has retreated into a fortified city to escape giant, man-eating Titans. Attack On Titan first debuted in 2013 to widespread acclaim. The show’s fourth and final season was stretched across three parts. The first aired in December 2020, followed by part two in January 2022. The third and final part was split into two feature-length specials, with the first having aired in March last year and the second in November 2023. In a four-star review, NME described the final episode as an “epic conclusion”, writing: “In the end, Attack On Titan remains a cynical, unsparing and gruesome cautionary tale about humanity’s worst impulses. But as long as there are Armins out there, we can always hope to do better.” Speaking to The New York Times about the ending, Isayama said it would have been “hokey” to culminate with a happy resolution. “I guess there could have been an ending where it was a happy ending and the war ended and everything was fine and dandy,” Isayama said. “I guess that could have been possible. At the same time, the end of fighting and the end of contention itself kind of seems hokey. “It kind of seems like it’s not even believable. It’s just not plausible in the world we’re living in right now. And so, sadly, I had to give up on that kind of happy ending.” The new movie is set to debut in Japan on November 8. No release date in the US or UK has yet been set. Since its inception the show has spawned a stage musical adaptation which premiered in Japan in 2022. Attack On Titan is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The post ‘Attack On Titan’ film ‘The Last Attack’ drops new trailer appeared first on NME. - #news #business #world #jobs #school #passion

In the grand theatre of political maneuvers, where senators transform into actors and the courtroom becomes their stage, we find ourselves on the cusp of another spectacle—a confirmation hearing wrapped in the gilded cloak of anticipation. Imagine, if you will, a circus ring where the spotlight dares to blend the sober-minded truth with the brilliant sparkle of hearsay. It's as if every hearing is a tightrope act, performed without a net, where anonymous accusations are hurled like cream pies. Wouldn't it be a twist if one day, amidst the flying allegations, someone actual balanced a book of logic and reasonable discourse on their head? 🔍 Speaking of balance, does anyone truly anticipate an honest exchange amidst this melodrama? Or is sincerity simply the last honest skill, honked from tiny red noses hidden in Senate corridors, leaving us to wonder which side of the partisan trapeze tomorrow’s accusations will swing? - Are we navigating towards a judiciary utopia where discourse thrives? - Or spiraling into an endless loop de loo where noise leaps through the air, outshining silent contemplation? Let us promenade through this circus, pondering under its vast, striped canopy: What if truth whisked away its makeup and anonymously skipped the party altogether? 🌪 In this curious carnival of character assessments and public prancing: - Will justice be the daring tightrope act it aspires to be? - Or shall it fumble in the elastic embrace of hypercharged headlines and invisible critics? Peering through kaleidoscopic lenses at the viewfinder of tomorrow, the forecast depicts more flamboyant performances: - Sideshow soberness sprinkled with philosophical popcorn. - Balancing acts by hopefuls who carry the weight of expectations on broad shoulders. ⏳ Who knows, perhaps the next act will feature something novel—a transformation where the clamor fades, and dialogue is more than just circus music, but a melody of integrity resounding after the curtains fall. And, as we sift through the remnants of today's echo chamber, may we find solace in the nuance between noise and narrative. Here’s to the chisel of honesty against the granite of confusion—may our seats be forward, our analysis deft, and our popcorn metaphorically buttered. https://lnkd.in/emdgfXDV #ConfirmationHearings #PoliticalTheatre #JusticeJourney #TruthVsNoise #CourtroomCircus #HonestyUnderTheBigTop #IntegrityPrecedent #NavigateTheNoise #NarrativeCrafting #BalancedAnalysis

One thing that's almost impossible to do casually is to understand much of the popular culture of a given time and place one hasn’t lived in. Single artifacts may hint at it but robbed of context can be misunderstood. In that regard: since I was a teenager I've been fascinated by numerous recordings of singers who were popular in the first half of the twentieth century - there's often a kind of beauty there that I can't quite put into words. Three such are Enrico Caruso (1871 - 1921), Beniamino Gigli (1890 - 1957) and Jussi Björling (1911 - 1960). I've known their recordings for many years now, but didn't have much visual image of them in my head, other than their portraits on album covers. But someone the other day introduced me to this late 20th century documentary on the three of them which makes clear how they used the latest technology to become so famous. The details are different from how it's done today, but in some ways it's all quite familiar. The existence of old film, self-caricatures (see post image) and other material makes clear how well Caruso managed to project his charisma to the world; and Gigli and Björling's awkwardness had a certain charm as well. Anyway, just interesting. A sort of glance at the history of the early days of music-meets-audio-technology-meets-visual-technology-meets-business-models-meets-celebrity. https://lnkd.in/dWVERjju

**The Unheralded Innovators of G-Funk: Above the Law** Above the Law, a pioneering hip hop group from Pomona, California, emerged from the vibrant late '80s West Coast rap scene, notably signing with Eazy-E's Ruthless Records in 1989. Their debut album, "Livin' Like Hustlers," effectively laid down the early groundwork for G-Funk, a subgenre that would later shape the trajectory of West Coast hip hop. Despite their pivotal contributions, the group remains lesser-known in mainstream discussions, often overshadowed by more commercially recognized names. Their work with multiple record labels, including Tommy Boy Records and Death Row Records, resulted in influential albums like "Uncle Sam's Curse" and "Time Will Reveal." The tragic and untimely passing of KMG the Illustrator in 2012 marked not an end, but a pause in the group's journey, as they seemingly had new projects in the pipeline. With Above the Law’s significant yet understated impact on G-Funk, should the industry do more to recognize unsung pioneers whose innovations silently energize major musical movements?
