“Stranded” in Tuscany: not confident, but capable—a lesson On a recent trip to Tuscany, my wife and I found ourselves in a tiny town after the Chianti Classico wine festival. It was lovely.. but we knew we had to leave in a few days and we hadn’t planned ahead 🤦 No car. No taxis answering. No buses running. Tour companies? Fully booked. We weren’t confident about how we’d get back. But hey, what’s an adventure without a little uncertainty? After a day of persistent calls (and maybe a few extra espressos), we not only found a way out but also enjoyed private tours of two wineries, an amazing experience in Montalcino, and an eye-opening visit to an olive oil mill. Not bad for two “stranded” travelers! As this theme kept popping up throughout our trip—like when we tried to read Italian train schedules or figure out if the ferry was actually running in Amalfi—we started saying: “We’re not confident, but we’re capable!” This experience reminded me of challenges in business. Launching a new product. Entering an unfamiliar market. Delivering that first big presentation. Our confidence can be shaken. But our capabilities—built over years of experience—get us through. Confidence is a feeling; capability is a fact. So, when you’re tackling something new and confidence is low, trust in your abilities. You may not feel confident, but you are absolutely capable.

💃 Go-To-Market: Spain, Useful Cultural Trivia. 📌 When is "good morning"? Not when you might think. Spaniards divide their day based on meals. You say "good morning" until you've had lunch, "good afternoon" until dinner, and "good evening" after dinner. It's not based on the numerical time on your watch. 📌 Siesta is an ingrained Spanish custom: Not really. Spain used to be such a poor country that many people needed two jobs to make ends meet. An afternoon nap was required between jobs to make it through the day. It also meant many women needed to work to pay for groceries, leaving their children in the care of others when possible. 📌 Spain loves bullfighting: Short answer: no. Almost 60% of Spaniards are against bullfighting (Ipsos 2016 survey), and it is even forbidden in some municipalities, although not (yet) on a national level. 📌 Paella is the national dish: Depends on who you ask. Spanish cuisine is extremely varied, and paella is known throughout Spain but not automatically the #1 dish everywhere. As an aside, legend has it that paella was invented in the Valencia area by Roman legionnaires who had brought rice from the Middle East and used locally available ingredients (snail, rabbit) to make a stew. (Note to tourists: no seafood). 👉🏻 Interested in learning more about Spain as a (potential) market?
