It was a great pleasure for the French Tech Amsterdam Community and Tech Makers Amsterdam to welcome French Tech Director Clara Chappaz and Alice Woda, Head of International at French Tech, for a super convivial evening yesterday! Today on stage at the #TNW Conference, during an insightful panel on “Cultivating Champions: The Role of Ecosystems in Driving Sustainable Growth,” Clara emphasised the significant contribution of French Tech #community #volunteers worldwide to the success of La French Tech. Thank you, Clara and Alice, for your visit and enthusiasm sharing with our community in Amsterdam. A big thanks to all who joined us yesterday, and to Fabien Bouhier for hosting our gathering at Le Stud.

I host parties for founders and techies | co-host @ vancouver tech week 🇨🇦 | developer advocate @ defang
Last month, I co-hosted and moderated the Vancouver Tech Ecosystem Roundtable with Careers In Technology and Innovation, Lighthouse Labs, Tech2Step & Vancouver.dev. Instead of creating our own agenda, we asked the community through a survey what they wanted to hear. Then, I had the privilege of moderating the panel with Chris Neumann, Joshua Nilson & Tanis Jorge. After the event, we compared our notes and compiled a report. Today, we’re releasing our findings. Here are the recommendations we learned to make Vancouver a world-class tech ecosystem: 1️⃣ Leverage Vancouver’s Geographic Advantage. 2️⃣ Prioritize the Growth of Local Tech Enterprises. 3️⃣ Advocate for Pro-Business Policies. 4️⃣ Focus on Creating Substantial Projects. 5️⃣ Promote Local Success Stories. If you’re interested in learning more, the full report is available at: https://lnkd.in/gF6p5pdA

The UK and European tech sector has seen an increase in women in the workforce since BCSWomen was founded a few decades ago. There have been women in computing from the beginning - working on LEO and at Bletchley Park Trust in 1930s and 1940s. We know that with women like Dame Stephanie Shirley, Dame Wendy Hall, and Professor Sue Black OBE, Hannah Dee and so many others we have role models. And thanks to events like the Lovelace Symposium, I know there is talent pipeline. When Dame Stephanie founded her software business (1959), there was little opportunity for women to run any type of business. The commercial banking offers have improved considerably! But transactional banking isn’t the only financial option founders need. There is still some suggestions that, ‘women don’t want to be in tech - if they did, they would be’. If all things were equal, that might be interesting to evaluate. However, part of the reason that there aren’t so many women founders is (not a lack of desire or grit but) inequality of access to business funding. In Ireland, 75% of VC (venture capital) funding goes to all-men teams. The funders seem to be inadvertently selecting out women - or at least tolerating founders who don’t include women in their teams. Hearing repeated Silicon Valley stories of female founders invited to pitch in hot tubs or in casinos bars, I’m not surprised. For women founders in tech to achieve parity, it is time there was a challenge for VCs to find places where women founders can pitch with equity. And this stuff matters to the economy because the statistics for women on boards suggest businesses are more successful with a diverse board. The same is true in tech problem solving - diversity of backgrounds can hone products and services to be better for all. There is an opportunity to find out more in Dublin this May. At the Dublin Tech Summit 2024, the TechFoundHer team will be presenting more about: - why we need more women tech founders for our economy, society and the world. - why transparency of gendered data in business is needed to support positive change for everyone. Explore the latest in tech and business together with tickets to the summit on 29-30 May 2024 at the RDS in Dublin. https://lnkd.in/eK7EMe_Z #DubTechSummit #TechFoundHer #vcfunding #vc #techentrepreneur #womanownedbusiness #womeninstem

Great video on why need to talk about tech policy,
WHY DO WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT TECH POLICY? Last month we gathered experts and stakeholders from tech industry, politics and civil society to have discussions about tech policy. During the two days of Tech Policy Days we had many important discussions and ideas that will inspire all the participants. We had invited all the partners of the CPH Tech Policy Committee and in the film you can meet three of our international committee partners - giving their answers to the question of why it is important to talk about issues like geopolitics, regulation and innovation of tech policy. A big thank you to Nanjira Sambuli, Anita Gohdes and Jonathan (Josh) Kallmer for giving their input.
