🏘️ It was a pleasure to present our recent work alongside Daniel Hanson at this seminar on Housing Affordability and Economic Productivity. 🤝 Thanks to the chair, Fiona Fletcher Smith, the expert panel, and the numerous participants for the engaging discussion on housing as social infrastructure, the challenges of providing affordable housing at the council level, and solutions to allocate the currently scarce public housing more effectively. 💬 Looking forward to do more work in this really important intersection of policy, economics, and housing. Cooperating as partners is the approach to economic development that '6 Regions, One Nebraska' is encouraging among neighboring communities. Just returned from CALED's Annual Conference. The Rural Workforce Trends, Challenges and Opportunities noted: 1. There is a lack of labor supply in California. 2. Texas' growth has been due to housing supply. 3. California's growth is limited by housing supply. Labor force growth is key to economic development and labor needs housing. Dr. Thornberg's recommendations for rural California development: 1. Understand what your economy is and isn't. 2. Participate in policymaking at the state level. 3. Invest in housing - particularly multi-family. 🌟 🌟🌟 4. Control your local narrative by investing in research.

NEPA Alliance is designated by the Economic Development Administration, U.S. Economic Development Administration, as the Economic Development District (EDD) for the 7 county region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. As the EDD, the NEPA Alliance is required by federal law to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region every 5 years. In 2025, NEPA will begin this process. Over the past half-century, the Midwest has been experiencing an increasing divergence in economic outcomes due to out-migration and the changing industrial structure of the region. As large manufacturing facilities have closed and remaining manufacturing facilities have become more capital-intensive, communities that were once manufacturing-intensive have experienced long periods of decline. Michael J. Hicks and Dagney Faulk have published an article in the Journal of Economic Development Quarterly on the impact of a state-level, place-based economic development programme. https://lnkd.in/eZjFxTdT
