This is exactly what IUFRO is about: to be a network in which scientists and experts from all over the world can meet and share their knowledge on a certain topic.
I'm currently attending the IUFRO - International Union of Forest Research Organizations Conference on Phytophthora in Forests and Natural Ecosystems here in Paihia, New Zealand. This has reinforced just how critical international relationships, collaborations and knowledge sharing are to enabling global and local improvements in forest health and biosecurity. The Forest Growers Levy Trust is proud to be co-sponsoring the conference. In supporting this event, New Zealand's forest growing sector has the valuable opportunity to learn from international experts' knowledge and management of Phytophthora, a plant pathogen which is having a devastating effect on forest health and natural ecosystems here and abroad. As we wrap up this week, we embrace the arrival of the summer solstice, an event that embodies the unity of cultural heritage and centuries-long traditions. The solstice, a significant moment in our yearly cycle, symbolizes the harmony between nature and human culture, marking the longest day of the year. It stands as a testament to our shared cultural history, celebrated across diverse societies and fostering a sense of global togetherness. The United Nations recognizes June 21 as the International Day of the Celebration of the Solstice, highlighting its importance in strengthening social cohesion and mutual respect among peoples. This acknowledgment underscores the solstice's role in uniting various cultural identities through shared rituals and celebrations. The solstice is not just an astronomical event but a reminder of our connection to the earth, agricultural cycles, and the traditions that have shaped human civilization. For businesses and individuals alike, understanding and respecting these cultural milestones is crucial. At Wolfram Chemie, we believe that embracing such traditions can enhance our approach to sustainability and social responsibility. Learn more about the cultural significance of the solstice by reading the full article on the United Nations website. Greece's apiculture is threatened. Massive forest fires in Evros prefecture, Evia and Rhodes islands, destructive floods in Central Thessaly, weather instability have all resulted in a significant loss of honeybee colonies (hive colapse, drawning, loss of habitat) as well as a huge decrease in greek honey production the last 3 years. Together with thriving honey fraud and lack of adequate quality controls from the authorities, greek beekeepers are desperate about their future. Having all these thoughts, I am currently planning my presentation for next year's APIMONDIA's 2025 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. This will be 16 years after presenting innovative beekeeping practices of greek honey producers at the 41st APIMONDIA World Beekeeping Congress, Montpellier France, Sept 2009

There’s no denying the place of China in the network of international trade. We have fewer Chinese exhibitors at Angling International LIVE than at past European trade shows. Their competitors from Europe have the advantages of proximity to the market plus the ability to supply quicker and more reliably. But there‘s one thing certain Chinese factories offer above all else. And that’s scale. We asked Modern Fishing Tackle about the size of its operation in Zhejiang Province. How much fishing line does it produce each year? The answer? In excess of two billion metres! That makes it one of the biggest, perhaps the biggest, line producer in China. There are lots of reasons to be at a trade show – including finding the right fishing line supplier for your needs – but taking just a moment to marvel at the scale of a such a huge operation should also count. I, for one, am looking forward to getting closer to Modern Fishing.
