Hello, friends! My summer tour continues with a visit to Dallas, Texas on September 13 to speak to the RCAT - Roofing Contractors Association of Texas at its 49th annual Texas Roofing Conference. I will be taking a deep dive into the Department of Labor's new misclassification rule. We will also discuss how the National Labor Relations Board has tackled the misclassification issue. If you are attending the Conference, please come see me at 9:00 AM on Friday, September 13. #independentcontractor #misclassification #employmentattorney #constructionlaw #roofinglaw #roofingattorney

Whilst we didn’t win, I’m proud to be part of an organisation that backs this kind of initiative. We all know LANTRA training only gives operatives the bare bones of knowledge and doesn’t guarantee they have any real practical experience. Over the last two years at Highway Traffic Management Ltd we’ve developed a comprehensive competancy assessment programme which all trainees go through covering over 180 criteria, including skills, knowledge and behaviours, stuff we expect everyone to magically know, but rarely teach, including how to load a van correctly, how to complete paperwork, what to do if there’s an incident and how to give or receive a briefing. Why have we done this? We want to have high quality competent and reliable operatives who have good knowledge and therefore the confidence to run sites whilst managing and supporting other staff. We have some great examples of this working with operatives who joined with no experience now teaching others. This is what quality and a conscientious TM company looks like. #htmltd #quality #trafficmanagement
We were back in London this week for the Highways Awards, having been shortlisted for the Worker and On Site Safety Initiative. 🙌 Sadly we didn't win, but it was still a fantastic evening celebrating the achievements from across the industry. Congratulations to all of the winners! ✨ Here's some snaps of our time spent with our friends from Consilium Technical Services, Up To Speed Training and HighwaysIndustry.Com (Official) throughout the day exploring London's BrewDog bar, having a go at bowling (where Ross Simpson was crowned 'King Pin') and finishing with karaoke post-awards show. 🎳 👑 🎤 A thoroughly enjoyable evening and a great event organised by Highways Magazine. Thanks for having us. 👏 #highwaysawards #highways #trafficmanagement #roadsafety #awards Greg Baldwin Marcus Casey Danny Thorn Andrew Booth Adam Hurl Michael Booth Matthew Higgs Lucinda Sturman Robson Weaver Flora Donnelly Denis Padmore Daryl Gordon, FIHE RegTTME (IHE) Michael Lysaght Andrew Gardner FIHE RegTTME(IHE) Ed Arnold Adam Mills FIHE Simon Booth Marc Hobbins

*NEW EVENT* Essex Business Partnerships is launching the CONNECT, COLLABORATE, CONSTRUCT Business Networking event on Tuesday 23rd January, which will be held going forwards on the 4th Tuesday of the month at Brentwood Rugby Club from 4.30-6.30pm. This event is for businesses in the construction industry or those businesses affiliated to it. We are creating a community of construction professionals who want to meet others working in the Built Environment, with a view to learning about industry activity and making new professional connections, with no pressure. The group will meet monthly with a view to exchanging information, developing professional and social contacts, and supporting each other in pursuit of opportunities for collaboration and new business. The meetings will take place at the Brentwood Rugby Club, which offers the chance to connect with like-minded individuals and groups in a relaxed environment. The bar will be open and hot food will be provided. Please feel free to bring colleagues or contacts, but we do ask that all attendees are directly involved with the construction industry in some regard. The format will be, where each meeting will commence with either a 30 min or two 15 min presentations. Presentations will cover a broad spread so that they appeal to both white and blue collar elements of the sector because we would like to see a good mix of trades, suppliers and professionals at the meetings. The presentations will focus on industry specific topics ranging from new legislation, sustainability, etc but we will also have a member spotlight where one business presents itself. There will plenty of opportunities to network with those present. The meeting will be open to both members and non members. As the father of a neurodiverse child I know that new places, sounds, smells, noises and experiences can be daunting. Thats why projects such as this are so powerful. Making spaces accessible is about more than just ramps. Yes they are needed for the percentage of people with mobility challenges, but there are also a number of other things companies can do to make their spaces accessible to all. Advance visibility of spaces is so important. Knowing where facilities are, assistance points can be found, or where staff are available to support is vital. Because making a journey to a new space, in this instance the railway, can be daunting. You and I may take it for granted that its just part of everyday life, but to some it can mean anxiety and worry - and the more we can do to reduce that the better. Well done to Coral and Carys for being so committed to making the railways accessible to all - you are absolute rock stars. Huge credit also to Great Western Railway (GWR) and Severnside Community Rail Partnership for making this happen too.

It's been a privilege to carry on the work of Coral Thomas in adding another 10 virtual station tour videos to Great Western Railway (GWR)'s repertoire. Working closely with Severnside Community Rail Partnership and Keith Mcmahon 📸 to deliver both the virtual tours and 360 videos. Big thanks to GWR Brand and External Communications teams for supporting with the scripts. These are the kind of projects that the Community Bid Fund brings to life. A fund which happens to be currently open for applications!

That’s a wrap! The Easter holidays are finished and schools are back tomorrow. (Is it just me or do they feel longer each year? 🤔) Delighted to be on the road tomorrow, attending the Openwork Roadshow in Dunblane. I’ll be talking about how Skipton Building Society for Intermediaries can add value to both brokers and clients 👀 🤝🏼. If we’ve not caught up for a while drop me a note, let’s get a coffee in the diary. ☕️ 📆 #businessdevelopment #intermediaries
