Happy Bobby Bonilla Day! Every July 1st from 2011 to 2035, the New York Mets pay Bonilla—who retired 23 years ago—$1,193,248.20 as a part of his buyout deal. Only 11 years and $11.9 million to go!

That is nothing compared to Shohei Ohtani. The rich don't care about what payments need to be made in the future. Not only do they have the money to buy what they want, but also extort from future generations, "This past offseason, deferred money became an even bigger talking point across the sport with Shohei Ohtani opting for a structure with the Los Angeles Dodgers that will delay payments for $680 million of his $700 million megadeal. He'll start receiving $68 million per year in 2034. "

Of course Bobby Valentine is smiling like a hyena...it's not HIS money. I attended the very first New York Mets game in the Polo Grounds in 1962 (I was a kid, I went with my Dad)-Frank Thomas was the highest paid Met...an astronomical $30,000. Richie Ashburn was a close second at $29,000.

But he has not made an error in over 20 years. Seriously, sports, as Bill Parcells said, is a talent acquisition business. You are damned if you do not take risks, and damned if you take too many, no one gets the perfect results, just the great front offices manage to get it right far more often. Then, in a huge way, finding chemistry, then building confidence, is as important as hitting the curve ball.

I love pro sports, but it's stuff like this that really makes me questions my 'why'. Stuff like this is why prices are so dang high and a lot of families cannot afford to go and fully enjoy the baseball (or any other pro sport) experience! Hope he's doing something for others with all this money.
