Clear Lumber Clear lumber – free of knots and other “defects” continues to be increasingly more expensive and harder to source. Remember, knots are simply where branches grew out of the trunk. These boards generally require larger diameter logs where more wood fiber allows wood to be graded out for a higher grade. Larger logs come from larger trees – those that have grown for a long time. These are rare and/or are under strict environmental regulations. There are still opportunities based on the actual logs run through the mills. Front Range Lumber made a great acquisition of high quality 4x4, 2x4 and 2x6 Douglas Fir boards. While not literally clear or perfect, these boards are simply incredibly great quality at a very attractive price. Stop in / Give us a call / Visit our website: LAKEWOOD: 1741 S. All lumber lengths are NOT priced proportionately. Due to a wide range of factors including mill outputs and individual length popularities; lumber is rarely priced “proportionately” by length. In other words, a 10’ board generally will NOT be half of a 20’ board. If your needs are flexible or you are cutting to much shorter lengths, we suggest you shop around the individual prices by length to determine the lowest cost per foot. Commonly, you’ll find 14’ pieces being among the least expensive. Need more guidance? LAKEWOOD: 1741 S. Wadsworth Blvd. FORT LUPTON: 805 14th Street

Big news keeps rolling in! Acre by Modern Mill is now available through Sherwood Lumber. Acre siding, by Modern Mill, offers several benefits, making it a popular choice for durable, eco-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing siding. Here are some of its main advantages: 1. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable: Acre siding is made from rice hulls, a renewable and sustainable resource. It’s 100% recyclable and free from wood, which helps reduce deforestation. 2. Durability: Resistant to water, pests, and extreme weather conditions, Acre siding won’t warp, crack, or splinter. It’s highly suitable for harsh climates. 3. Low Maintenance: Unlike wood, Acre siding doesn’t require frequent painting or staining. It can be painted or stained if desired, but the material itself resists fading, which reduces upkeep over time. 4. Natural Wood Look: Acre mimics the natural appearance of wood, giving a warm, classic aesthetic. This makes it appealing for homeowners who want the look of wood without the maintenance. 5. Ease of Installation: Acre siding is lightweight, easy to cut, and install with standard woodworking tools, which can save on labor time and costs. 6. Insect and Rot Resistance: Since it’s not organic, Acre is resistant to insects and won’t rot, providing a long-lasting siding solution without the risks associated with wood. Acre siding is an innovative alternative for those seeking a sustainable, long-lasting, and attractive siding option. Be sure to reach out for more information! Next up is SCL. Structural composite lumber (SCL) includes laminated veneer lumber (LVL), parallel strand lumber (PSL), laminated strand lumber (LSL) and oriented strand lumber (OSL). This family of engineered wood products is incredibly solid, predictable and uniform. They can be sawn to consistent sizes and are virtually free from warping and splitting. Ripping lumber is when lumber dealers will “rip” – or split in two – a piece of lumber to yield two boards from one. That may be a money-saving option, but it is recommended not to use “ripped” lumber structurally. Learn more about this process and why it's not recommended 👇 #lumber #wood #southerpine #pine #forestproducts #rippinglumber #stability #construction

You know how I know it's a bad year for sawmill closures? When I have to shrink my PowerPoint font to fit the list of closures on a single slide... For 2024 announcements, we're now approaching 1.6 BBF of indefinite and/or permanent closures. That's about 2% of the North American softwood lumber capacity base. Sadly, more closures are likely coming as the pricing environment remains weak and duties on Canadian softwood lumber rise from their current combined 8% levels later this month. Just a brutal year for sawmills in North America, there's no other way to put it. #Lumber #Curtailments #Construction #Fastmarkets

Lumber mills typically saw logs into certain actual dimensions but, as the timber is processed, the width and thickness of the end product is consistently less. So why is a 2”x4”, for example, not actually sized 2”x4”? #southernpine #pine #lumber #dimensionallumber #wood #woodmanufacturing #lumbermanufacturing #buildwithwood

How familiar are you with Southern Pine’s moisture content rules? Lumber 2″ or less in thickness is capped at 19% moisture, but did you know “KD15” or “MC15” is limited to 15%? Certified grade marks ensure proper seasoning, with restrictions applying at shipment, dressing, or buyer delivery if kept weather-protected. https://buff.ly/4jfothu #SouthernPine #LumberGrading #WoodProducts #Construction #BuildWithWood

Unlike visually graded lumber, E-grades are machine-graded based on their Modulus of Elasticity (E), which measures stiffness. This ensures consistent performance—perfect for applications like laminated beams or engineered wood products, where stiffness is key. Curious about all the Southern Pine grades? Thinking about a new roof? Deciding between metal and shingle? Sun exposure is an important consideration when deciding which type of roof to install. For example, for site locations with full sun, metal, TPO, or PVC/KEE roofing systems are ideal. However, shaded areas may benefit more from an asphalt shingle roof.
