Hired as Field Operations Managers last year, Will Batson and Jarret Fowlkes of Commercial Maintenance have been promoted to Junior Account Managers. “They are proactive, client-focused, and detail-oriented,” Customer Relation Manager Josh Wilder said. “These promotions are well-deserved, and we are excited to see Jarret and Will continue to thrive in their new capacities.” A graduate of Mississippi State University, Will joined Michael Hatcher & Associates in July 2023. Jarret, who graduated from Christian Brothers University, has been part of our Team for nine months. Both said they love our company’s camaraderie and family-like atmosphere and agreed that their stints as FOMs will be an advantage in their new roles. “Having been a Field Operations Manager, I can communicate issues to other FOMs about properties so they can relay that to the crews,” Jarret said, adding that from mowing and mulching to edging and trimming, “I wouldn’t ask them to do something I wouldn’t or don’t know how to do. That’s why I think communication is so important.” Their experience as FOMs ultimately benefits our Commercial Maintenance customers. “When I’m out on property or talking to a client, I can better explain our process of how we do things and give them a better understanding of what needs to be done and the timeline it will take to get it done,” Will said, noting the importance of building and maintaining positive client interactions. “We want customers to be able to trust us with anything they need or want done on their properties.” Check out the work that Will, Jarret, and our entire account management team can do for your commercial property at www.hatcherlandscape.com. #CommercialLandscape #CommercialMaintenance #Excellence #CareerGrowth #CareerDevelopment #CareerAdvancement

What's the #1 reason people leave their job? They don't get along with their direct manager. Turnover in ranching is high (and expensive.) It's tough to find good help. It shouldn't be so tough to keep it. While we know there are often other factors to consider in the ranching industry (housing, ranch location, ability to move up, etc.) bad management is a big one to consider. If you have high turnover and you're ready to change that, get in touch. Our Ranch Assessment considers all the factors involved, and we can figure out a way forward for you and your ranch that doesn't include a rotating door of employees. robert@jrcranchconsulting.com cassidy@jrcranchconsulting.com

DO NOT FEED WILDLIFE. I recently sat down with a dealer and had a discussion on anticipated challenges for 2024. Many, including EVs, Floorplan, Interest Rates, OEM, are regularly discussed but the one that stuck out to me was having to retrain their sales staff to be hunters. For much of the past few years, their sales staff were able to sell at or above MSRP, didn’t need to work a deal, and in many cases not fully prospect or follow up on leads. My family and I love to visit the National Park Service and often encounter signs about not feeding the wild life. Why? Because the wildlife may become dependent on handouts. In this case, the wildlife are your salesforce. And if they are used to getting fed deals/handouts, they forget how to be hunters/salespeople. Have you noticed any changes in your closing rates and follow up activities? I have had similar conversations with other dealers so it isn’t an isolated case. I’d love to know what changes your sales staff have had to make to be successful as the market continues to shift. #fedisdead #automotivesales #crm #salescoaching

Business Development Tip For HVAC Wholesale Territory Managers: NEW BUSINESS - KNOW WHAT YOU ARE HUNTING FOR. There are at least five steps in a successful new business effort. Step number three is Marketing Strategy. A big part of your marketing strategy is knowing what you are hunting for. As you may be aware Territory Managers are often classified as Farmers and Hunters. The TM classified as a Farmer would typically be the type of sales person who either specializes in or is more comfortable in working with existing accounts. Farming activities would include but not be limited to; growing existing business, maintaining excellent relationships throughout all stakeholders in the customer account, providing excellent customer service, follow up and response to customer issues, etc. A TM tagged with Farmer label is usually associated with having a better skill set with regard to transactional and developmental sales activities. The Hunter is typically the TM who is relentless on knocking on new doors and pursuing new accounts. The Hunter is usually associated with a fearless preoccupation of closing large account opportunities. In some cases, a TM Hunter may be perceived as being generally bored with the transactional requirements of account management and maintenance and naturally gravitates towards the high stakes action of the big game accounts. While the contemporary professional Territory Manager is a balance of highly skilled Hunter as well as highly skilled Farmer, when it comes to new business acquisition, hunting skills must be honed. If we examine hunting in the most primitive sense, I contend a hunter normally gets what she is hunting for. Said another way, if a hunter is hunting for bear…and deer, squirrel, and rabbit are encountered during the hunt, does the hunter abandon the hunt for bear and chase the other animals? Well the answer may depend on what kind of hunter one is. I submit that an effective bear hunter will not be distracted by the other animals encountered during the hunt. For every deer, squirrel and rabbit collected during the hunt, you have one less bear. So you prepare to hunt bear, you track bear, you want bear; then when other animals run across your path you abandon the hunt for bear and hunt anything you can get? That is not a very good bear hunter, yet there is a parallel between the poor bear hunter and the new business activity with a lot of Territory Managers. In my experience, the number one reason why some TM’s struggle with their new business initiative is that they don’t know what they are hunting for.
