We're back at SBI2! Sept. 18-20, we’re headed to the Society of Biomolecular Imaging and Informatics 11th Annual Conference in Boston – an event to share the latest developments and innovations in high-content imaging. ◾ This year, Recursion is sponsoring the conference Colloquium on Sept. 18, 12:45-5pm, focused on “Image-based profiling of biological systems across scales and modalities.” ◾ During the Colloquium, Oren Kraus, Associate Director of Machine Learning, will present as part of a Roundtable called “Future of image-based profiling (AI, bridges to other fields)” with Meghan Driscoll of University of Minnesota; William J. Godinez at Novartis; Juan C. Caicedo University of Wisconsin-Madison; John Hickey at Duke University; and Auguste Genovesio at Institute of Biology of the École Normale Supérieure Paris (IBENS). ◾ On Sept. 20, Staff Machine Learning Engineer Kian Kenyon-Dean will give a an abstract talk on “Generative Phenomic Foundation Models for High-Content Microscopy,” proposing a new perturbation-agnostic generative AI framework for self-supervised representation learning on HCS datasets with masked-autoencoders (MAEs) that shows promise for creating powerful foundation models of cellular biology. Happy to share that our (with Cassio F. Dantas and Raffaele Gaetano) research work has been accepted to the European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery - ECML/PKDD24 Title: "Semi Supervised Heterogeneous Domain Adaptation via Disentanglement and Pseudo-Labelling". We propose a neural framework to learn a target classifier by leveraging both labelled and unlabelled data from heterogeneous data sources. While the homogeneous case is largely investigated, the heterogeneous scenario (where source and target data are represented by different modalities) is still under-explored, especially when non-standard sensor data is involved, such as those used in medical and remote sensing fields.
