🌟 Transforming Public Health: A Collaborative Journey! 🚀 Excited to showcase the remarkable efforts of my dedicated team— Hanan Alwan, Katherine Zackary, Modinat O Showemimo, and Jennifer Tran—for the Texas Department of State Health Services - Tuberculosis project. Alongside program staff Mauro Ruiz and Melissa Davis, and under the expert guidance of Dr. Hare-Everline and the teaching team from the Community Assessment Methods in Public Health course, we embarked on a mission with immense impact. 🎉 Our mission? To tackle Tuberculosis head-on by conducting a comprehensive assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among residents living along the U.S.-Mexico border. 🌎 Here's a glimpse into our journey: 📚 Literature Review: Delved deep into TB stigma in the US-Mexico border region to inform our approach. 💡 Interview Guide & Best Practices: Crafted tools and strategies to empower community health workers and volunteers implementing the survey during Operations Health Border Preparedness 2024. Our efforts were supported by our innovative Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) guidelines—a one-pager providing a comprehensive framework for conducting interviews on TB stigma. 📋 Survey Implementation Plan: Mapped out a strategic plan for implementing surveys, focusing on cultural competency and effective interviewing skills. 📝 Recommendations for DSHS TB Program: Provided actionable insights to enhance TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes. In addition, we've laid the groundwork for future initiatives to ensure the longevity of our impact and set the stage for the next summer cohort. 💪 Together, we're making strides towards a healthier, more equitable future! Join us in our mission to transform public health and make a lasting impact in our communities. 💫 #PublicHealth #tuberculosis #TBPrevention #CommunityEngagement #HealthEquity #Innovation #Collaboration #US #Mexico #border

Excited to share that my paper on COVID-19 policymaking in Iraq has been published in BMJ Global Health. This research is the first to explore evidence use in informing the Iraqi response during the COVID-19 pandemic. Main highlights are: • Perceptions on how mistrust in the political system reflected on public compliance with the COVID-19 control measures. 🌐 • Compromised academic freedoms affecting research production in the context of infectious disease response policymaking. 📚 • The need to move beyond dominant biomedical models when addressing vaccine hesitancy, public concerns, community engagement, and so forth. 💉 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/d7eYTwdG #COVID_19 #Iraq #HealthPolicy

The NRP 80 “Covid and Society” supports the Federal Council's intention to improve the #EpidemicsAct. It seized the opportunity to participate to the consultation on the planned partial revision of the Epidemics Act. In its statement, the NRP 80 highlights the importance to consider not only the biomedical but also the #social dimension in a #pandemic. Thus, the Programme underlines the necessity to ponder the #direct and #indirect effects of a pandemic. The NRP 80 consultation response on the partial revision of the Epidemics Act came about through a participatory process with around 120 researchers. They discussed the matter during the Programme Conference 2024 in Weggis on the 7th and 8th of March. Want to know more? This article does a nice job of telling the story of the trajectory of Food is Medicine. It reminds us how we got to this pivotal and inspiring moment of rethinking how we prevent and treat nutrition related diseases and hunger.
“More and more, we are seeing Food Is Medicine woven into conversations around health and health care.” Learn more from Kaiser Permanente’s ED of Community Health, Pamela Schwartz, about our efforts to advance the #FoodIsMedicine movement, including the work being done through our Food Is Medicine Center of Excellence, and the origins of the Food Is Medicine movement in this great piece by Boston Globe Media: https://bit.ly/3xqED4R.
