📢 Debunking Myths in Palliative Care Dr Choon Meng Yee, Head & Senior Consultant, Division of Palliative Care at NCIS is on a mission to challenge misconceptions about palliative care. Often misunderstood, palliative care is not about giving up hope or being unfilial; it's about enhancing the quality of life for patients and families through compassionate support and symptom management. 💙 “A lot of children feel like they can still do more,” Dr Yee shares. “These feelings, actually, are a part of their grieving process.” By fostering understanding, he hopes to encourage more people to see palliative care as a form of empowerment and dignity. End-of-Life looks different depending on the diagnosis. Kaishauna Guidry, MD, HMDC, Medical Director and founder of Mourning Dove Medical and Sharon Harris, LVN, Chaplain, and founder of Serenity End of Life Doula wrote “The Real Deal About Hospice: Short Stories Highlighting the Advantages of Hospice Care for Patients and Families.” What makes this book unique is that the short stories are different diagnosis. We read about what end-of-life may look like with common hospice diagnosis like, Heart Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, ALS, and Cancer; and the common challenges that are associated with these diseases. The book highlights how hospice can benefit the individual and care system for each of these diseases. It also includes a handy list of definitions and facts related to hospice and palliative care. If you’re wondering who this book is written for, the dedication says it all. “This book is dedicated to all those that are afraid of the H-word.” This is the book to give to your friends/family members who may be wondering what they are going to do about their aging/ill family member. And, to the new hospice family who are fearful and confused about hospice. And, to the end-of-life doula so that they can better understand EOL care for different diagnosis. Director of Business Development at Keriton. Neonatal and Pediatric Nurse Leader, Educator, Team-Builder, and Clinical Innovator
Today, May 17, is NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) Awareness Day. NEC can result in very dire consequences for our neonatal population, including death. We at Keriton hope that our feeding management system contributes in some small way to preventing NEC; by assuring that not only the right parents expressed human milk goes to the right patient, but also the right recipe/caloric fortification. I would like to share more information about an amazing organization, The NEC Society, that strives to get us to a world without NEC. Let us all work together to minimize the risk of NEC to our infants. (link used with permission) #NECAwareness #preventNEC

Florida Attorney with a focus on Estate Planning, Asset Protection, Elder Law and Probate using the Power of Technology
I really appreciated this in depth article on things to keep in mind. The points on palliative care are so important. I review this with all my clients and ask these types of questions during consultations. Often, this is the first time people are truly thinking about this. If you are thinking about these things, no matter your age, for yourself or your loved ones, call my office to set up a time to meet with me. #eatateplanning #endoflifecare #hospice #elderlaw #probate

Such a great korero on Tuesday morning organised by Lyttelton Community House. With Karla and I talking about Advanced Care Plans and Wills. It is empowering to know that there are tools available to help us to ensure our wishes are carried out when we can't speak for ourselves. Less than 50% of people that are of age do not have a will and an even lower % have enduring powers of attorney. I don't know the stats but I would suspect that less then 30% of people over the age of 18 have an advanced care plan. This is a discussion for all ages and not just those over 70 or with serious illness. I thank Lyttelton Community House for raising the topic and giving space for these important conversations. The discussion in the room, highlighted how much we care for those around us and how much easier it can be to support them if we know their wishes. Difficult conversations can be held on taboo topics when those engaged in the conversation know it is about love and care. Sometimes it is easier to face those difficult possibilities now while you are well, rather than when you are in the pain and stress of the situation. Thanks to Karla for enlightening us.
