You are not required to justify why you should take a leave. I saw a random post from a connection (in another, more social networking platform), that her manager asked her to give a "reason" why she needed to go on a leave. I held several managerial positions in the past before I decided to go on my freelancing/consulting journey, and any of my direct reports will attest that I will never ask them to justify going on leave. I have a simple rule that we all agree on, "Make sure you have someone that can provide coverage for critical and time-sensitive tasks". The same rule applies to me, I always inform my direct manager about the backup coverage and make it a best practice to include the name of the "officer in charge" in my out-of-office email reply. I've been in operations for most of my corporate career, and there are challenges during the usual "holidays" like Christmas, New Year, Holy Week, etc. I usually plan ahead of time with the managers reporting under me and we agree on who will provide coverage, and we rotate that responsibility to make it fair. I've even taken my share of providing operational coverage to make sure that everyone understands that I'm also part of the team. Let's normalize a culture where people can take their allotted vacation leaves without justification. Let's address the issue that they use their sick leaves (in the Philippines, there is Vacation Leave, Sick Leave, and Leave Without Pay) to get a break. Let's build a workplace culture of mutual trust, respect, responsibility, co-accountability, and teamwork. Here's a bitter pill to swallow, if your boss requires you to provide a reason to take a leave, it's an indication of a bigger work-culture problem, perhaps, it's time to re-examine your options. #management #consulting #EmployeeEngagement #humanresource

Notice to Employers , Leave will enhance Organisational Performance Dear Employers, I know times are tough and the pressure is getting "wesser and wesser" 🤣, but please prioritise the wellbeing of your Employees Na who dey( only those who are ) alive dey work , do you know some people are living in fear of requesting for leave , I heard one Employer, once you dare ask for leave , you have "sacked" yourself I worked somewhere , where Staff will have to fall sick compulsory, I am proud of myself that I changed the narrative, today in that organisation, infact people go on leave using leave calendar , it's well planned and there's business continuity no matter who goes on leave Some Business or Organisational Leaders have never gone on leave since they started, I daresay it is extremely dangerous for your health Don't be a statistic, some people are so overworked,they are so weighed down ,they even develop Mental illness , and fall into depression, this could have been addressed by just taking out time to rest Leave is not a favour, it is regulatory , and no one , I repeat no one should feel guilty for taking time off I also plead, put great structures in place, so people don't have to work throughout their leave , it is all shades of being wrong Encourage people to go on vacation in, and out of their country,go somewhere, bond with their friends and families ,I can guarantee they will come back refreshed, performance and productivity will improve Kudos to Employers who give more leave than the labour law says and to those who don't give at all, I'm watching you on 3D🥹 Let the Employees breathe! They forget to add on the 14 days MC in everyone's contract.....🤣🙄🤦♂️"MOM no plans to change minimum annual leave, urges employers to review benefits 'holistically'". 7 days holiday is basic for everyone in Singapore but as MOM says, that goes up by one day a year and most employers actually offer 14-20 days of holiday here. Plus of course we have 10+ public holidays. But the real bonus is the 14 days MC that everyone takes on a Friday/Monday/day before/after CNY/NDP etc! When I first came here I had to ask why people kept joking about their 14 days MC being counted as holiday as in the UK we never had a minimum amount of sick days in our contracts! We just took them as and when we were ill. But in Singapore everyone thinks that they're entitled to the 14 days MC each year whether they're sick or not! So basically it's a holiday! So all these days add up to over a month year "holiday". Reasonable, don't you think?
