Pull back the curtain on SA’s primary industries, and what will you find? Alongside a strong regional heartbeat, you’ll find a whole lotta SCIENCE! The South Australian Research and Development Institute, SARDI, is the powerhouse for many of the innovations and transformations that ensure our primary industries are secured and not only survive, but thrive! Harnessing wild bread wheat relatives in search of bigger and more reliable harvests? SARDI science is unpacking the genetics. A commercially available soil pathology test (Predicta) that puts farmers streets – and seasons - ahead with paddock intel? SARDI developed it. Methane-reducing livestock feed, poised to make a sizeable dent on sheep emissions reduction?Innovations that transform food processing side streams and food waste’ to new products? These and many more innovations are being developed in partnership with industry, in labs right across our state.   We launched SHRMP.bio in early 2024, inspired by the potential of cellular agriculture and lab-grown meat. Despite initial feedback from industry experts leaning towards short-term goals, we believe in tackling the long-term challenges in food production.   This is why we spend most of our #LaunchClub & The National Agriculture & Food Incubator NAFI time on conducting research on the future of seafood over the next 25 years, work that has mostly been undercover for now - but we presented our findings at the AquaFarm Industry Conference - and more importantly, we realised the opportunity in aquaculture may be even greater than we initially thought.   With a team of international interns and consultants, we developed a high-level development plan over the winter, and with the beginning of Q4 2024, we joined Startmate’s #Buildmate program - with the goal to:  Plan a first prototype for a SHRMPReactor grow-out system - and depending on the outcome, either build it... or start raising money to build it.   Read a bit more about the initial journey here: https://lnkd.in/gcpMs_G9

Delighted to represent Agrinatura at the Association for European Life Science Universities General Assembly 2024, led by Professor Maria Knutson Wedel, (The vice-chancellor of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and ICA President). The discussion at the General Assembly centred on the contribution of life science universities towards the EU Commission’s Strategic Dialogue for the future of EU Agriculture. Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, in January 2024 launched the Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU Agriculture, a new forum mandated to shape a shared vision for the future of the EU's farming and food system. She posed four questions: 1. How can we give our farmers, and the rural communities they live in, a better perspective, including a fair standard of living? 2. How can we support agriculture within the boundaries of our planet and its ecosystem? 3. How can we make better use of the immense opportunities offered by knowledge and technological innovation? 4. How can we promote a bright and thriving future for Europe's food system in a competitive world? Agrinatura and ICA are leading the dialogue through research and development projects, education and training, networking and collaboration and policy advocacy.
