Great advice for funders. You are what you measure.
Following through on my commitment to racial equity as a funder, and North Carolina Local News Lab Fund's commitment as a fund, is all operations. We made two shifts, in our vision and our measurement, that have expanded our support for Black and Hispanic/Latino led teams, orgs who operate in a language other than English. Those teams are expanding the diversity of newsrooms in NC, better reflecting the state. This was our entry point into the longer term work, and we're clear about where we need to keep it moving apace. I lay it all out in my latest.

Can philanthropy competitions be equitable? 🤔 YES 🙌 We believe we provide a rare opportunity for organizations, particularly those with proximate or BIPOC—Black, Indigenous, and people of color—leadership, to compete based on their potential for impact rather than access to a funder’s network. Learn more about our approach in this Inside Philanthropy penned by our CEO: https://lnkd.in/gF5q6At
