Overcoming difficulties and solving problems to carry out a complex project like PERRINN 424 implies being very tenacious and resilient. At the same time, it is essential to be able to question ourselves constantly and keep being open-minded. Although it may seem quite trivial…it is not always easy to find the right balance between perseverance and readiness to compromise. Yet, experience has taught us that it is the only way to succeed in this undertaking. 🤔 In other words: 📝 We are convinced that we are on the good path and that everything we create and work on brings us closer to the concretization of our dream of beating the Nürburgring lap record and participating in Le Mans 24h with our electric hypercar 424. We make a point of delivering very high quality solutions fuelled by the expertise, dedication and passion of our community. While continuing to improve various aspects of 424 design and our Unity driving simulation, we now feel ready to go to the next step and make all of it become a reality….which requires some funds. This is where our whole project needs to meet the market demand. Is it a question of time? Do we need to review some aspects of our concept to make it more appealing? The future will tell.⏱ In this framework, we keep exploring new approaches regarding the technical topics as well as marketing, team organization, value proposition, etc... 🔍 Just one of many examples: 🧐 Think of the Red-Bull RB17, Aston Martin Valkyrie, McLaren W1,...what about a 2-seater version of 424 BEV (battery version, for the Nürburgring lap record)? This would of course slow down the car a bit but the value of being able to have a passenger aboard such a high performance hypercar is huge as it would become the ultimate track car with a passenger. ➡ We have started some pre-analysis as far as the driver field of view and aero efficiency are concerned to evaluate the impact of such an update. 👉 It looks like it is too big a compromise for the Nürburgring outright record which is the reason why the study is now paused…but it is still an option to be considered depending on what potential future customer(s) will require. I will have the great pleasure and honor to once again attend the Formula Student Symposium (FSS) in Győr, Hungary (one hour drive from Vienna) on November 15th, 16th and 17th. I will present two topics: - From concept to validation: a proposed methodology for a Formula Student Racecar development based on the V-Shape model. So many parameters define car’s performance. How do they connect? Where and how do you start a car design? What tools and knowledge do you need? This presentation starts with the grasp of the best performance “big picture” and offers approach to the design of systems, subsystems, parts and their validation.  - Aeromap validation. Most Formula Students use CFD to define and quantify how wings, underwings and vortexes influence their car aerodynamics characteristics. Based on the principle that only validated simulations are useful, this presentation offers some advice on the tools and the methodology necessary to validate aerodynamics simulation with on-track testing.      The symposium is a MUST for Formula students. It occurs at the right time: at mid-November, you can still make decisions for your car design and development and on preparation for future testing thanks to the advice and great Q&A sessions acquired at FSS. The AMZ Racing Team from ETH Zürich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts achieved their highest goal in 2023 shattering - the world acceleration record for electric vehicles with their Formula SAE car, “mythen.” The use of Altair tools has helped contribute to their success. Here’s how they made history: ✅ 0-100 km/h in 0.956 seconds: Achieving this mind-blowing acceleration beat the previous record by over 30%! ✅ Power-Packed Performance: They designed their own four-wheel hub motors, delivering an incredible 240 kW (326 hp). ✅ Advanced Simulations: They used Altair Flux™ and FluxMotor™ to optimize the motor design for unmatched power and efficiency. Special recognition goes to Yann Bernard, former Head of Motors at AMZ Racing, for leading the charge on this electrifying innovation within the team! A short history of Formula Student (Part 1): The Society of Automotive Engineers was founded in 1981, in the United States. The program later became known as Formula SAE. By 1998, seven teams were competing across the UK and US, and annual events were held at the MIRA Proving Ground, Warwickshire. The University of Birmingham went on to claim the top spot amongst UK teams. The IMechE Formula Student undertook management of the European venture, while remaining in partnership with the SAE. By 1999, Formula Student events were held in Birmingham, at the National Exhibition Centre. The Rochester Institute of Technology won overall, and the University of Leeds took top place for the UK. At the turn of the millennia, the US remained on top, taking yet another win. However, their victories would not last long (see next week's post for Part 2, and the podium emergence of Oxford Brookes Racing). In 2001, Georgia Tech took the overall win in Birmingham, with Leeds scoring highest for the UK teams. In 2002, the event relocated to Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire. Georgia took pole position again, with Brunel University of London placing top for the UK. The Driver Training Event was also established, taking place in Wigan. The event was available to all teams participating in FS, who had built their own cars in preparation for the main event in July. Want to learn more about Formula Student? How grooved brake discs are making an F1 return https://lnkd.in/eREd6jAc As regulations change and evolve, F1 teams find themselves able to find new ways to reincorporate good concepts that worked previously but suddenly lost their edge for one reason or another. The latest example of this phenomenon is the reintroduction of grooves on the brake disc rotor, with Carbone Industries trialling them at recent races. Williams conducted some experiments at the Italian Grand Prix, with Alpine also joining the action in Mexico. While the hope is always of tweaks like this adding some direct instant performance advantages for this year, it is more likely that the designs are focused on field testing solutions in preparation for 2025. This early sighter will also allow the teams supplied by the French manufacturer, which is over half the grid, ample time to prepare and optimise the rest of the braking system and brake duct design around tailored new solutions from the brake disc supplier.
