Can gradually increasing efforts save the planet? Explore our latest publication on, 'Forest Futures: Letting Hope Take Root,' as we unveil three potential trajectories for the future of our forests. Our vision of 'Fragmented Roots' embodies a path of slow and gradual efforts toward forest stewardship, with much of its potential undiscovered. While such a future might see positive impacts, such as some successful reforestations and restoration initiatives, many issues such as unabated global warming and combative governance will remain unresolved. Discover why unlocking the full potential of forest stewardship is vital for shaping the future of Earth's forests here: https://lnkd.in/dQHQY36n //Photo by © unsplash.com / Noah Buscher

The carbon footprint 🌍👣 of bottom-trawled seafood is among the highest of all foods. For one thing, bottom trawling burns fossil fuels to catch fish and other marine life, more than any other fishing method. And when trawl nets scrape the seabed, they disturb vast amounts of carbon, releasing plumes of carbon-rich sediment that can be viewed from space. 🛰 Bottom trawling is accelerating global warming and ocean acidification and worsening the impacts of climate change. A critical question to solve for limiting global warming and protecting biodiversity is how to mobilise sufficient capital for resilient economies, adaptation to climate change and conservation of nature. Mangrove forests are one of the planet’s most powerful solutions to the climate, biodiversity, and food security crises. Today, they are in peril. But unlocking $4bn in investment between now and 2030 could secure the future of mangroves and the critical ecosystem services they provide. The Mangrove Breakthrough Financial Roadmap by my colleagues Jennifer Ring Marieta Stefanova, CFA Raiditya Priatama Roebiono together with the UN Climate Champions and Global Mangrove Alliance illuminates a path forward to drive a step change in finance for mangroves. Maintaining the balance of the Earth’s climate systems, the ocean is responsible for absorbing as much as 30% of human-produced carbon dioxide. But today, no part of the ocean has completely escaped the adverse impact of increased global warming, ocean acidification, and increased deoxygenation. Urgent and concerted global action is imperative to mitigate these impacts and preserve the health of the ocean and the planet. This complex relationship between the ocean and the climate is the focus of the Challenge 5 of the #OceanDecade, which aims to unlock ocean-based solutions to climate change, such as offshore wind energy and sustainable aquaculture. 👉 Meet the ocean experts working together as part of the #Vision2030 Working Group on Challenge 5 to increase our understanding of the ocean-climate nexus: https://ow.ly/KkQx50Rutpn

From oceans to plains: Global Natural climate solutions could absorb 25% of the CO2 we need! 🐘Were you aware that safeguarding and rejuvenating just nine species and species groups—marine fish, whales, sharks, grey wolves, wildebeest, sea otters, musk oxen, African forest elephants, and American bison—has the potential to capture up to 16% of the annual #CO2 required to stay below the 1.5°C global warming threshold? That is nearly all of the emissions produced by the global Manufacturing industry that ranks 2nd overall according to Climate TRACE. By harnessing the assistance of wild animals, we can enhance #climateaction mitigation efforts and expedite the achievement of our climate and #biodiversity objectives. 📨Here is a great article published by Matthew Collis. Coral reefs are considered one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. They provide both shelter and habitat for marine life. Rising ocean temperatures and acidification caused by global warming are leading to wide-scale coral “bleaching” and disrupting the entire reef ecosystem. Environmental Funeral Options _ Its Your Choice The concern about global warming and its impact on the environment extends to various aspects of human activities, including funerals. Traditional burial practices, especially those involving embalming and using non-biodegradable materials in caskets, can contribute to environmental degradation. With this in mind, perhaps it's one reason more people are choosing Basic Direct Unattended Cremation options. Find out more https://lnkd.in/eYP7xphF

Climate Feedback Loops happen when one change in the climate triggers further changes, in a chain reaction that reinforces itself as time goes on. Ultimately, feedback loops can trigger tipping points, at which point the changes to our planet’s climate systems become severe and irreversible. Currently, scientists are aware of some serious feedback loops that are driving global warming. For example, as sea ice in the Arctic melts, more heat is being absorbed by the darker ocean waters, thus speeding up the warming process and leading to more ice melting. Similarly, as wildfires burn down forests, they release greenhouse gases leading to more warming and more wildfires. Other feedback loops include the thawing of the permafrost, forest dieback, and insect outbreaks. #climatefeedbackloops #globalwarming #wildfires
