For New Year’s Eve, myself and a colleague hosted a virtual event for 100+ Covid Cautious BIPOC folks. Many of us have lost access to public space due to a complete lack of Covid mitigations when COVID is still killing and disabling people. We had 3 virtual dance floors, a spades tournament, a visioning for 2024 workshop, an art gallery, karaoke, short/feature film screenings, a haunted house and more. It went for a full 24 hours and there have been folks hanging in our virtual drop in space since. I say this to say two things: 1. There is a NEED for organizations and groups to continue making virtual events and 2. They can be fun if you care about them and don’t see them as a deficit!!!!! We are hosting an ongoing virtual BIPOC Covid Cautious drop in space AND a virtual event center. As someone who is immunocomprimised and a performer, this has been a vital space for me too!
If you have questions, ASK, but do not keep going through this pandemic pretending that people are unimpacted by COVID.
