Our research on scarring effect of the pandemic is estimated by grouping the industries into four subsectors based on energy and labour intensities. A comparison of model output and the projected growth from a hybrid data set revealed the least impact on green industries. However, the intertwining of green and brown industries and the consequent short-run transitional cost necessitates calibrated policy intervention for sustainable growth.

Today is Earth Day. Climate change directly affects human health. Extreme weather events like heatwaves, hurricanes, and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change. These events lead to injuries, displacement, and loss of life (disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses). For healthcare this means an increased burden on emergency services, trauma care, and disaster response in an already resource constrained environment. Championing environmental stewardship, advocating for health equity, and preparing for a changing climate can help us all contribute to a healthier planet and healthier lives for all. #sustainability #healthcare #EarthDay #Environmentalstewardship #Healthequity

The industrial sector is a pivotal player in the global economy, driving progress and prosperity. However, it also bears a significant responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the urgent challenge of climate change. As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, the process industries must take bold steps to decarbonise their operations. This transition is not just an environmental imperative but also a strategic business move, as stakeholders increasingly value sustainability. The path to decarbonisation is fraught with challenges, but it also offers opportunities for innovation and growth. By embracing new technologies, improving energy efficiency, and adopting cleaner production methods, industries can reduce their carbon footprint while enhancing their competitiveness. In our new paper on decarbonisation in the process industries, we lay out the strategic framework for decarbonisation, provide insights and guidance for industries ready to make the big decisions that future demands necessitate. We explore the various aspects of decarbonisation, from planning and value calculation to execution and looking ahead to the future.
