As mentioned in previous posts, I've recently started networking with industry professionals on the topic of growing AI and technology in construction claim resolution and how it's changed practices this year. Another developing AI-affected area that is sweeping the US construction industry is the Data Center sector. Data Center revenue from generative AI is predicted to expand at a 58% compound annual growth rate between 2023 and 2028. However, the intricacies and problems that data center building projects present due to their complexities can pose considerable risks to project timelines, costs, and overall success. In order to drive insight, action, and impact across the data center building lifecycle, a powerful framework for doing so must be provided by the strategic application of project controls. https://lnkd.in/gpgfVvEq An abundance of crucial project data can be both a blessing and a curse. If information isn't stored in a logical and accessible way, that data's usefulness can be significantly hindered.

This paragraph, from a recent article, perfectly describes what the AtkinsRéalis Construction Data Intelligence team have been working hard to address for close to a decade now: "Barring extraordinary extenuating circumstances (such as global pandemics) most project overruns are caused by a lack of good quality data. This can either take the form of not enough information at the start of the project, preventing accurate planning and costing, or not enough information during construction, so that teams struggle to identify and respond to challenges and risk in a timely manner." I'm proud of the progress we've made to date in helping our clients to make a dent in this large and complex problem, though I've always felt that we lacked sufficient tools to collect the data that we know we need at sufficient scale. With the help of Michael Yun, Alejandro Gozalo López, Paul Lakin, and their teams in developing the Advance Analytics Control Center (AACC), we now have an outstanding tool that is helping us automate the data collection and aggregation. The tool applies quality control checks and then extracts the relevant data directly of the software that our colleagues use to estimate, plan and deliver major programs. This is a massive step change in the way we work. To date much of our time has been focused on collecting, cleaning and adding context to data, before our analysis work can begin. The AACC technology is enabling us to move to a new phase where the tool will extract, transform and load the data we need at a scale that would never have been possible before. Already this has made huge impact on how we are supporting our client major projects and programs and I'm really excited about where we can take this in the future. #DataIntelligence #Innovation #ConstructionTech https://lnkd.in/g5dH-8YZ
