What is the most important thing you've learned so far?
Gabriel: Adaptability is key. In consulting, every day is different, and project work can change quickly. Being proactive, communicating openly and maintaining a positive attitude are crucial. Also, there are no mistakes, only opportunities for improvement.
How would you describe #TeamFTI in three words?
Gabriel: Collaborative. Transformative. Creative.
Have you discovered any interesting running routes since moving to NYC?
Gabriel: My go-to path is the West Side Highway! I try to run every Sunday up from Pier 57, down to Rockefeller Park, where I get a soft serve cone from the closest ice cream truck.

Get to know Yajing (Teresa) Yu, an intern on our Transactions team in Atlanta:
What are you most excited about working on or learning at FTI Consulting?
Teresa: I'm eager to dive into observing and contributing to a deal's lifecycle. Witnessing how our team consolidates data, analyzes financial statements and generates reports is a prime opportunity for learning. Observing my Orientation Advisor, Coach and fellow team members using various Excel functions to refine financials further facilitates my learning process.
How would you describe FTI Consulting in three words?
Teresa: Inclusive. Professional. Efficient.
What inspired you to pursue your current field of study?
Teresa: My journey into finance and accounting began during my internship at EY, where I worked on an ERP implementation project. That experience made me realize that accounting is the most commonly used and efficient language in any business setting. I'm driven by a desire to understand how financial statements work, how to interpret them accurately and extract vital information to draw implications for business operations and management. Pursuing dual degrees in finance and accounting prepares me for the technical roles I aspire to have in the future.
What is the best place you have traveled to?
Teresa: When it comes to travel, I can't choose between Shanghai, China and Monteverde, Costa Rica. Shanghai's charming streets lined with vintage shops and stylish coffee stores captivated me. Not to mention, Shanghai boasts some of the best food and hidden top 10 cocktail bars in the world, tucked away in elegant, aged buildings. Meanwhile, Monteverde offered me exhilarating nature experiences, from adrenaline-pumping whitewater rafting to the awe-inspiring feeling of ziplining through lush green mountains, like flying into a sea of greenery. These experiences not only enriched my life but also shaped my perspective, fueling my passion for exploration and discovery. As I embark on this journey with #TeamFTI, I look forward to contributing my skills and enthusiasm to our shared success.

Would you allow an intern to present to a CEO or a CFO of a client? I do regularly.
One of the things I love about my career is helping individuals grow and develop.
I noticed early on in my career that my firm and specifically the Gaming Group I mostly work in, provides young team members with so many cool experiences and opportunities.
We involve our new team members (including interns) in meetings with clients. We allow them to speak and ask questions.
If a team member identifies a potential issue or finding, they talk through the item with the client. If the item is a confirmed finding, they formally present it during our close out meetings. Many times these meetings involve CEOs, CFOs, and CCOs.
The meetings go off without any major issues. And the clients love hearing from the entire team.
The client is happy and team members get valuable experiences. It doesn't get much better than that!
What experiences are you giving interns and new hires?

Thankful and blessed…
On August 23rd, I completed a 15-week summer internship with Pioneer Music Co. The growth and mentorship I experienced far exceeded my expectations. During my time as an intern, I had the opportunity to dive into almost every aspect of the company's financial and accounting processes, allowing me to contribute in meaningful ways. My biggest takeaway was understanding the critical importance of efficiency through a solid cash conversion cycle. Here are some of the key projects I worked on that led me to this insight:
- Sales Tax Analysis: I assessed the company's sales tax exposure across all U.S. states by analyzing raw sales data. I provided state-specific solutions to support both current and future growth. Additionally, I educated the accounting team on integrating automated sales tax software to ensure future compliance.
- Process Mapping for Cross-Training: I mapped out the accounting department's processes and tasks into a learning management software, streamlining cross-training and expediting the onboarding process for future employees. This experience gave me a new take on training and allowed me to better understand the nuts and bolts of a company’s accounting team.
- Warranty Process Optimization: At the start of the summer, I was tasked with optimizing the newly created Return to Vendor process. Over the course of the internship, I developed a custom process to collect credits for warranty items which was documented and is currently being used.
- Financial Package & Budgeting: Collaborating with Brock Gandy, I helped create a new companywide financial package used to evaluate branch performance and assess the company's health on a monthly basis. We also developed new company budgets and integrated a companywide compensation plan, contributing to a more predictable cash conversion cycle for future planning. These projects were incredibly rewarding and deepened my understanding of key performance indicators.
A huge thank you to Alec Haight, Brock Gandy, the Accounting Team, and everyone at PMC for your unwavering support, guidance, and for making this experience unforgettable.

Hi all,
As I navigate through my internship at EY, I wanted to share a quick update on my journey so far. It's been an incredible learning curve, diving deep into client work, which has given me a real taste of the impact and reach of professional services.
I've been honing my analytical skills, spending significant time with Excel, and it's amazing how powerful this tool can be in the hands of those who know how to wield it. From data analysis to financial modeling, Excel has become an indispensable part of my daily work.
One of the highlights has been collaborating with a talented group of peers on a sustainability challenge. It's inspiring to contribute to a project that not only tests our problem-solving skills but also has the potential to make a real difference in our approach to environmental responsibility.
This internship has been a blend of growth, challenges, and teamwork, and I'm excited to see what the next phase will bring. Stay tuned!

This week we welcomed 80 summer interns into our Capital Markets business, representing the top 1% selected from over 6,000 applicants!
Some of my most valuable experiences came from my internships, shaping not only my professional life but also my personal journey.
During my first one at Arthur Andersen (at the time part of the Big 5!), I discovered two things: that public accounting wasn't for me, but that I had a passion for client management. This realization allowed me to shift full focus to business and finance. The following summer, my interest in technology and finance was sparked during my Hewlett-Packard internship, but I realized I was seeking a more entrepreneurial environment.
The final piece of the puzzle was my first job, a short run at tech start-up ReplayTV at the end of the tech boom in ‘99. This was followed by a great opportunity at a high growth start-up, Good Technology. However, I ultimately decided tech was not my passion and shifted my sights to commercial real estate. With the invaluable support of my mentors at Good Technology (thanks Danny Shader, Joel Jewitt), I wrapped up my role there and moved to Dallas to pursue CRE.
Without these formative experiences, I wouldn't have discovered my passion, and it’s why I love welcoming new interns to our program at JLL. I hope this experience helps them find their passion and shapes their future as profoundly as my internships shaped mine.

On the last day, my director at KPMG asked me: "𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟯 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽?"
During my time, I learned a lot about the consulting industry. And even online I often get asked the same question. So, I wanted to share with you the three key things I learned during my time in consulting:
1. Consulting का '𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲'
My internship felt like a crash course in consulting - I got to work on 2 major aspects of the project in my tenure and worked alongside an analyst, consultants, managers, directors, and even a partner which was a great learning experience.
2. Strategy AND Implementation
I learned that consulting involves more than just strategy and presentation; it's complex when it comes to putting plans into action and quantifying the impact.
3. Life as a full-time Consultant
I experienced the long working hours that are typical in consulting. Living with the team, I got a real sense of the demands and pressures of the job. I got to learn how things work out in the business world when you are working for a client with a turnover of hundreds or thousands of crores, you need to be more responsible, right?
4. Interaction with my Team (Top B-school grad.)>>
Lastly, I'm grateful for the valuable connections, network, and mentors I gained during my internship, who have had a significant impact on my personal and professional growth. The feedback & discussion sessions in those 2 months, changed me a lot. (Bonus)
This is how internships can give you significant learnings and impact your life. And if I have experienced all this, you could too,
If you keep knocking, the door will eventually be open. Keep trying!👏
Ps: There are a lot of incidents and anecdotes I have, let me know if you would like to know:) And, if you have any questions or doubts hit me up or drop in the comments.
