Small part from my yesterday's article: I am passionate about working on events and always choose event-related opportunities, even when I have good permanent job offers. The joy I feel from working on events is unparalleled. Despite the effort, long hours, and sleepless nights, the moment I step back and see the final result, I feel an immense sense of pride in what I have created or contributed to. Working in event operations involves cross-functional collaborations, providing even more opportunities for growth and learning. Each event provides clear insights into areas for improvement and showcases where I have successfully applied my previous experience. The knowledge and experience gained from each event are extremely valuable and helpful for future projects.

Have you ever felt like giving up on finding the right job? Moving to a new city can be challenging, especially when the job market is completely different. But don't lose hope! As someone who moved to Toronto less than 2 years ago, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find the right job. I spent a year in sales, which wasn't exactly in my field, but I enjoyed it because of the amazing team. However, I knew I wanted to get back to HR and Talent Acquisition. It took a year and a few months, but I finally landed a job with Hyundai Capital Canada that I am enjoying every aspect of. Finding the right job in a new market is tough, but it's worth it when you finally get there. So keep pushing, keep exploring every inch of the market, and don't be afraid to connect with anyone who can offer advice. Remember, the grass is always greener on the other side. Don't give up, keep fighting, and you'll get there! #hiring #jobmarket #jobsearch

How to tell if an online job is legitimate: Watch out for these red flags There are a number of online and remote jobs that are completely real and pay you a decent amount of money in return for your labor. However, there are also plenty of scams masquerading as legitimate online jobs, as well as jobs that are real but pay you so little they may not be worth your time and effort. Here are key red flags to look out for: It says you won't have to do much work “Online jobs are still jobs,” says Esther Inman, a career coach and the CEO and founder of Virtual Assistant Internship, a company that helps people looking to start online careers. If an online role you’re considering “ever seems too good to be true or like you don’t have to do much in order to get paid, then it is a scam.” Any jobs that advertise themselves with statements like “work five hours a week and make $1,000” should be ignored, Inman says.

My first job out of college (and after my externship in London!) was as a Wedding & Social Events Coordinator at a hotel in Stevens Point. I really enjoyed that job—loved playing a part in making sure that the special moments in people's lives went off without a hitch, so they could celebrate with their families. The hotel's ownership group brought in new management company, and asked what we'd like to see change. I asked for additional responsibilities and opportunities to learn. That turned into me leading a small sales team for a sister property. My career was doing pretty well. Until, that is, they hired a new General Manager for the hotel. It was tough working for him. I felt like he'd say one thing in regional meetings and do the complete opposite at our own hotel. It wasn't long before I started waking up 3-4 days a week and immediately contemplated calling in sick to work. When you spend 60-80% of your work week not wanting to be there, you know something has to change, right? Here's another percentage: 100%. That was the amount of time I spent being negative about work, so much so that a mentor called me out on it. I knew I wasn't a negative person by nature, so I was determined to figure out what was going on. I had applied to Renaissance Learning once before, but when I applied a second time, things were different. I knew what I wanted: to work for a company with a strong mission, where it mattered whether or not I showed up to work every day. When they called me to tell me I had gotten the job, I knew things were going to be different for my career. And they were. At Renaissance, I was given opportunity after opportunity to learn and solve problems and tackle challenges. Within 3.5 months of working at Renaissance as a Sales Specialist, I was promoted to District Account Executive. Six years later, I left Renaissance because I knew I needed something else: to have each day be different. To make an impact at a smaller company. That's how I found myself at Securly. I tell this story because I don't think we give our own self-awareness nearly enough credit. We know what we want. We may not know it right away, but it comes to us eventually. And what we need will always change, depending on who we are at a given point in time. Our environment. Our priorities. You've got a great built-in internal compass. Don't be afraid to use it. #SelfAwareness #Intuition #InternalCompass #CareerDecisions
