THANKS TO ALL OUR COLLEAGUES AND CLIENTS: It is hard to believe that our firm has been providing science-based human factors research and usability testing for half a century. It has been a fantastic journey, consulting on some of the most vexing problems in the human+technology space. The most important lessons for achieving such longevity are always to make your clients smarter about HF science, respect your colleagues, and never turn away from arguing in an insightful way about the benefits of human factors research. It is an uphill battle in the face of the relentless push of AI and feature-driven product development. Yet, the arc of history favors human-centered solutions. We have been so fortunate to have participated in many of the most significant technological advances of the last 5 decades. Some of those technologies changed the trajectory of society, and some were simply heartbreaking failures. Most important for the next generation of HF scientists is understanding that there is a seat at the table. The scariest call of 2024 wasn't about AI replacing us. It was my doctor's appointment confirmation. Finally, I gathered the confidence to present one of my grand visions to the team. During yesterday's strategy session with the clean energy enterprise team, a member of the design team asked me an interesting question: Olawale, how are you able to contribute to business strategy, contribute to product design, and offer valuable insights to the tech team? My answer to him was simple: Preparedness is the Secret. I went ahead and seize this perfect opportunity to share one of my grand visions, which is my deepest desire to build a successful business that not only addresses current problems faced by communities but also offers sustainable solutions that will last for generations. My aim for such business enterprise is to create something that will outlive me, impacting even the fourth generation after me; just like my mentors. When asked about my proficiency in design and my ability to contribute meaningfully to the tech team's efforts, I explain why these skills were not innate but learned. I added that i have a certificate in product management and product management from Coursera & Designu, these institutions have provided me with invaluable training. This training has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed and prepared me for the tasks at hand. I advised on why it is important to always prepare oneself for where you want to be. Let your target be your future self, whether that is in five or ten years. Do not conform to what you have or who you are today. Aim higher, think ahead, and always stay prepared. Preparedness is crucial. We must always be ready for the next challenge, even before it arrives. The past year was undoubtedly one of the most dynamic when it comes to technological developments and the associated challenges and opportunities in the creative agency business. I had the privilege of being an active part of this development by sharing and deepening my knowledge and experience in the field of generative AI. In various internal hot houses, client meetings, and creative sessions, it wasn’t just about exploring the possibilities and limitations of artificial intelligence together and integrating them into our creative workflows. It was also about reflecting together, developing an awareness of this new world, reducing fears, and transforming them into curiosity and a desire to shape the future. What started as sharing practical tool knowledge and general AI news evolved into an independent role for me. In many discussions about the future of creative work, I sought to foster adaptable mindsets and strengthen my colleagues’ confidence in working with new technologies. The best part? Witnessing those “aha” moments when colleagues suddenly realize how AI tools can open new creative doors, make workflows more efficient, and create entirely new solutions to challenges. These moments prove that change is not just inevitable but a genuine opportunity. In times of rapid technological change, I believe our greatest strength lies in learning and growing together. 🚛 Can new tech save lives on the roads? That's the critical question driving SAFER partners' latest project: Predictive Threat Assessment for Enhanced Stability of Multi-Unit Heavy Vehicles (MHVs). Traditional Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have struggled to prevent serious accidents like roll-overs and road run-offs. But what if trucks could predict these risks before they happen? This research project, led by Volvo Group and Chalmers University of Technology, aims to enhance vehicle safety by making #ADAS more proactive. Through Predictive Threat Assessment (PTA) tools, trucks could intervene earlier, smarter, and less intrusively—preventing accidents before they occur.
