Thank you, Jake Stones, Ana Paola Corredor Barrera, Vincent Daub and Raghu Viswanathan for sharing your insights on addressing key challenges in this emerging industry, including offtake agreements, cost efficiency, feedstock availability and regulatory uncertainty. I made my usual case, arguing that the European Commission could unlock a significant source of biogenic CO2 available in mixed streams by extending the mass balance calculation period from 3 to 12 months. This change would not result in increased CO2 emissions but would support Europe’s efforts to replace fossil fuels with efuels. By 2050, hydrogen production is projected to consume over half of the total electricity demand. But hydrogen is also an essential decarbonization solution for hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation and heavy industry. In a recent interview with Forbes, Mika Kulju, President of Danfoss Drives, underlined this exact sentiment: “The potential of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier is immense. But it must be produced efficiently to minimize costs, and we need to deploy it judiciously.
