As a long-standing fan of Formula 1 racing, I enjoy keeping track of interesting developments related to the industry outside of just the races. As such, I was very surprised to read about the latest development in the decarbonization efforts being made, as well as the larger implications of these efforts on our everyday lives. Since the 2022 racing season, E10 fuel - a blend of ethanol derived from renewable resources, has found use in the race cars, and while the jury is out on just how helpful this is in fighting carbon emissions, there can be no doubt about the organisation’s commitment to its 2030 net-zero goal. By 2026, the hope is that 100% carbon-free sustainable fuels will find use across races, with engineering and R&D teams from various involved organisations working towards avant-garde innovations to drive industry-wide decarbonization efforts. What stands out to me the most about the development and use of 100% carbon-free fuel is the applications for the transport industry as a whole. We have the opportunity to actively make changes as a result of an organisation like Formula 1 championing such an important cause, a testament to the importance of leaders driving positive change - both within companies and society as a whole. I am looking forward to a weekend of good racing later in Baku, rooting for #McLaren to win - who do you see taking home all the glory this time? Let me know below!
