Hilcorp Energy and XTO Energy settled with the DOJ and EPA for Clean Air Act violations, agreeing to pay $1.275 million and $4 million, respectively, with penalties shared between the U.S. and Pennsylvania. Hilcorp will retrofit equipment to reduce emissions, cutting 160 tons of VOCs and 5,200 tons of CO₂ annually, while XTO will spend $1.4 million to plug abandoned wells by 2027.
