Technician Spotlight! Gordon M. 1. How did you get started in the industry? I was born into the industry as my dad is a mechanic. I have been doing this my entire life. 2. What do you like about MF or your shop? I like the team effort which is put into everything. The management cares about the employees and it feels like a company/team effort where everyone works together. 3. What advice do you have for a new employee? Be patient while learning the new systems, standards, and procedures to produce a really great repair. Be open to feedback and know that learning this industry takes time and effort. You become much more effective by listening, learning, maintaining an open-mind, and being open to feedback. 4. What do you wish others knew about what it’s like to be a technician? I wish people were more patient because doing a repair right the first time may take time. 5. What are your future goals? I plan on taking any training courses we offer and supporting the training of new technicians. I would love to build armor-proof vehicles.

You win in the draft. Too often, companies are looking for great service technicians to fill current roles and needs. Unfortunately, the boiler industry doesn't have a surplus of great service technicians ready to come to work. That is where hiring on potential comes in. Companies need to hire as many people as they can who they think "could" be great service technicians and see how it works out. Professional sports teams get it wrong every single year on people's potential, and yet they are willing to continuously draft new people to build a great team in a couple of years. It doesn't happen overnight, and overpaying superstars rarely leads to championships. Not every person a company hires has the potential to be a "A" level service technician. And that is okay. Companies go through seasons of growth, and they may need some role players who fill a specific role but will not be at the company long term. Boilers run 24/7 and there is no offseason for companies to regroup and train talent. But if companies continually have fresh people coming into the organization who are properly supported, they will find in a couple of years the "A" service technicians they were looking for on day one. Not everyone will stick around for those couple of years of development. And that's ok. But don't allow the fear of people leaving the company to keep you from investing in them. #boilers #steam #training

Technician Retention is a game not many organizations seems to want to play. Think of the costs that are associated with hiring a new technician: - Recruiting - Sign on Bonus - Waiting for them to start - Downtime from not having them on the team - Training - Ramp Time - Upskilling - The impact on others who take on the workload of a lost technician. - Should I keep going? Technicians don't leave jobs. They leave hectic environments. Techs nowadays expect things...Things like Stability. Schedules. Technology. Are you doing everything in your power to create the best maintenance team you can? If you're the type of person that looks for new ways to improve, message me to see there's any opportunities you can capitalize on for your maintenance team. #maintenancemanagement #facilitymanagement

Why Every Technician Needs a Roll Cart #TechnicianTalk #EfficiencyMatters In the brutal dance of automotive repair, efficiency is the golden ticket. For a Master Technician, every move matters, and that's where the well-equipped roll cart struts into the spotlight alongside the classic toolbox. 🛠️ It's the technician's sleek, mobile arsenal strategically positioned to snatch back precious minutes in the lightning-fast world of repairs. Who'more efficient? A technician with tools neatly organized on a roll cart vs. another doing a marathon to the toolbox. Time is money, and having everything within arm's reach on a rolling cart is like having a VIP pass to the seamless workflow. No more tool scavenger hunts – just focus on the task at hand and conquer the job with efficiency. 💪 #technician Snap-on #fixedops #autorepair #fixedoperations #servicemanager #mechaniclife #technicians #automotiveindustry Christian Lafferty ★ Chris Collins ★
