❔ Is Access a role or a goal? We at #teamdecisive believe it is a goal for all functions in organisations we work with to accelerate and innovate on the path to faster, broader patient access around the world. 🤝🏼Medical Affairs has always been a central partner to Market Access in ensuring strategies and plans are well aligned with clinical reality, articulating unmet need, appropriate positioning of a new therapeutic option, and clear explanation of the evidence base all being central to a great submission. Medical Leaders are also often a present voice in HTA committees, and in meetings with Pricing and Reimbursement authorities, playing a strong role in negotiations on the value of a new technology. Relationships with the wider clinical community, and with patient advocacy organisations ensure Medical Affairs leaders enable all voices to be heard through any HTA or P&R process. 🎇So, in our #rebel Decisive way of thinking about this – we believe that there is tremendous strength in Medical Affairs, HEOR and Market Access partnering early in lifecycle to elevate the future needs for successful patient access, and championing together what this means for evidence generation and engagement long before launch. ✨It’s with this in mind that we are delighted to welcome Kevin Asher to #teamdecisive as an Associate. Kevin has worked in Medical Affairs Leadership roles locally, regionally and globally and has a strong appreciation of the role of a great medical affairs function, including the importance of cross-functional engagement at all stages of development. Coupled with his General Management experience in Italy, and a variety of roles focused on transformation of capabilities and structures he brings a different #rebelthinkers lens to the table. 🧩One of the initial areas of focus for Kevin will be around the complex transformations of workflows and interactions surrounding the introduction of Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) in Europe. Something that all functions need to understand and evolve with if you plan to bring new products to EU markets. He will also be strengthening our offerings in the adjacencies to our existing Access deliverables – including strategic scientific communications, early scientific advice and the elevation of skills and capabilities for Medical Affairs leaders to engage in #allthingsaccess. Please join us in welcoming Kevin to the team. We look forward to the huge impact that we know he’ll have. Bringing more #rebelthinkers to Access - #teamdecisive powering your success. #marketaccess #heor #medicalaffairs #pricing #JCA #HTA

The Medical Affairs Role Transformed as Real-World Data Requirements Unfold The transformation of the Medical Affairs function in the healthcare industry has been a popular topic over the past decade. Medical Affairs is indisputably a ‘strategic pillar’ throughout the product lifecycle, and recent needed updates within the healthcare environment have pushed this transformation even further into the world of patient-centricity. The impact on the Medical Affairs profession is pronounced as patient centricity is its mission and practitioners are most often responsible for incorporating non-registrational real world data (RWD), including development of an RWE strategy, into an overarching evidence generation plan to ensure that patient safety and product efficacy are balanced. In this article, the authors will review the scope and emerging importance of RWE, the responsibility of Medical Affairs in the RWE strategy and layout the three key steps to developing a RWE roadmap. If you have experience in Medical Communications/Affairs and are looking for the next step in your career, reach out to me to explore new opportunities. #medicalaffairs #medicalcommunications IQVIA #patientcentricty #realworld Erica Cave, PhD, CMPP Andy Graves Simonetta Santana Jason Murray

💡 Navigating the MSL Landscape: Insights for Aspiring Professionals The journey to becoming a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is often driven by a passion for bridging the gap between clinical developments and real-world medical practice. For those of us aspiring to enter this esteemed field, understanding the nuances of the role is crucial. Recently, I had the privilege of engaging in a conversation with an experienced MSL, aiming to glean insights into what makes the role both challenging and rewarding. 💡 The Respect for Time: A Testament to Professional Etiquette A fascinating aspect of the MSL role is the culture of respecting each other’s time. In an environment where urgency is a constant, distinguishing between what needs immediate attention and what can wait becomes paramount. The practice of avoiding non-critical communication, especially towards the end of the week, is not just about convenience; it reflects a deeper understanding and respect for the personal and professional boundaries of colleagues. For an aspiring MSL, this insight is invaluable. It teaches the importance of empathy and respect in professional interactions, qualities that are as important as scientific expertise. 💡 The MSL Journey: A Balance of Knowledge and Empathy The conversation shed light on the MSL journey as one that requires balancing a rigorous scientific understanding with the soft skills of empathy, respect, and communication. It’s about being proactive, but also knowing when to pause, listen, and respect the time and efforts of others. This balance is what enables MSLs to build strong, trusted relationships with healthcare professionals, ultimately impacting patient care and medical advancements. #MedicalScienceLiaison #MedicalAffairs #Pharma
