🔥🔥🔥 Please watch this HORRIFIC and eye-opening expose about Amazon. I was DISGUSTED. It’s an AMAZING 48-minute documentary showing Amazon's hold on their suppliers, and how they OWN the sellers on their marketplace - and BULLY and THREATEN them to the point of STEALING from them. Arrrgghhhhhh!!!! 😡 I learned a LOT from this, one. I'm sure you will, too. And, if you're an Amazon insider reading this, I BEG YOU to think hard about what you are doing to these people. You might think you are a good person working for a good company...but this is NOT "goodness" in any form. Let's DO THE RIGHT THING (sleeping at night will be easier). One of the guys in this video is a toy maker in Texas (Mike Hart). I’ve bought his products for my son, Gavin (the toy is called “Brain Flakes”...buy some!!!) Mike explains that by bullying him, Amazon now represents 95% of his total business, and without them, he’d need to close down. Worse, Amazon MAKES HIM use their other services (trucking, warehousing, fulfillment, returns, advertising, etc) or they essentially push him off the marketplace and would bankrupt him by just not showing his products to anyone until he pays their toll and does what they want. Finally, Amazon even looks at the "best sellers" in each product category and they then LITERALLY copy the products EXACTLY and even steal the EXACT SAME NAME for their own "Amazon Basics" brand. This diverts sales away from Amazon sellers (i.e. from Amazon's own CUSTOMERS, the sellers) and gives those sales to the Amazon Basics division, thus bankrupting the seller. I'm not as convinced as the author that the profitability of Amazon's 3P business is a "big secret" but her wider point about the importance of transparency on segment profitability resonates. This chart might explain why #ScottGalloway says #Amazon don't #advertise. It describes brand tone in terms of speed v noise. Amazon don't make a lot of noise, but they own speed. The diagonal ranks brands roughly in terms of disruptive power. Amazon is an outlier.
