While semantic-release is a well-known tool, it has never been available for Haskell projects—until now! Say goodbye to manual versioning headaches with our new plugin. Semantic-release-hackage streamlines versioning, generates release notes, and reduces human error, all in one package! Getting started is easy! To learn more, click here:

Have you ever written code in a functional style using pure functions? If you've worked with Haskell, F#, or Elixir, you might be familiar with the pipe operator (|>), and Kotlin offers its own version called the 'let' operator. However, in Dart, I found myself missing this convenient feature. Here's a snippet to add the pipe operator, which can significantly enhance code readability and simplicity. Embracing pure functions not only improves readability but also contributes to better maintainability. #FunctionalProgramming #Dart

I was doing some mind-bending in Unison last week when I was blown away by Haskell. I learn new languages to understand new development cultures and expand my repository of developer experience. Languages are like cultures; by traveling, we can bring the best or most enjoyable parts of those foreign cultures home. If you have yet to spend much time in the Haskell community, like I do, Unison Lang seems really unusual. I do Erlang/Elixir, so this functional imperative style is familiar. For lack of a better explanation, Unison is "a Haskell." While inaccurate in many ways, resources for Unison were relatively scant, and I found myself learning it by learning some Haskell at the same time.a So, let's just do the overview of Unison: - Has its own code manager (aka git and github) - Does some clever stuff to cache compilation (not new but novel) - Really is only executable in the cloud (Distributed first!) - Includes this share portal that hopefully will evolve into a refined https://lnkd.in/ggRq-yfw Let's just stop there; this is where I went reeling; if you don't know cause you aren't a cool Haskell kid, Hoogle lets you search from the package repository for packages and methods by approximate type signature!!! From a Rubyist perspective, we rarely have type signatures worth talking about. But I have spent an equal amount of time in Java and Kotlin, where those things are incredibly important. We solve them with interfaces more often, but that's for a different day. While this is trivial, it was meaningful to a noob like me who wanted to understand how to write a String to Int method in Unison -> Haskell. So I was able to search Hoogle for "String -> Int" and found "decimalStringToInt" along with its source code. COMMENCE LEARNING! Hoogle offers a CLI as well! What excited me was how it could help the average Rubyist; while we don't have types, we do have an approximation through arity and RBS. I imagine any company of any size increasing developer productivity and improving the internal idioms of a codebase with something similar. I can't count the times I have built something completely unaware a version that wasn't even identified at Code Review time existed. There is an opportunity for a new kind of Language Server Protocol use case. One that helps you solve with existing solutions. The inspiration is there, the practicality is TBD; but if I hadn't wandered into the unknown and tried the local custom, my world would be shallower. Go on... Get out there! Hi everyone. 🚀 I just wrote my own JSON parser from scratch using parser combinators in Haskell!. I'm thrilled to share this accomplishment and give a big shoutout to John Crickett for creating these amazing Coding Challenges. 🌟 What I learned: Parser combinators can be a powerful tool to create a complex parser from tiny independent parsers. And haskell's functional approach makes this a unique and exciting experience to implement mine from scratch. 🤯 Challenges I faced: Debugging, debugging, and more debugging! But that's where I learned the most. 🔗 [Link to the repository in the pinned comment] 🔜 Next up, Will be building a layer 4 Load Balancer from scratch. Stay tuned for updates! #Haskell #CodingChallenges #learnbydoing
