Should mutual funds hold cash in rising equity market? 's Deepak Shenoy says NO. Abhinav Kaul of moneycontrol.com Personal Finance caught up with Deepak Shenoy and here his key takeaways: Shenoy shared that he will start thinking about cash allocation if and when the market falls 10 percent. “At 20 percent, we will look to operate on the cash front.” Shenoy’s stand is in contrast with that of some other asset management companies (AMCs), which have been witnessing rising cash allocations over the past three months. As per Prime Database, average cash holding of the mutual fund industry stood at 5.51 percent as of end August, up from 4.78 percent in July and 4.36 percent as of June end. According to Shenoy, cash calls should be taken when the market has fallen, or is falling instead of going up. Sectors that Shenoy is looking at the moment: "defence, manufacturing, railways, infrastructure, domestic consumption, and financialisation spaces are not heavily valued." About charges of manipulation in the SME space, Shenoy said that he doesn’t invest in that domain and that enforcement levels are very low against badly behaved promoters. “Hopefully, that will change,” he added. Read the story on moneycontrol.com Personal Finance. Coming up: What Deepak Shenoy has in mind for his upcoming mutual fund house, which recently got SEBI's interim approval.

International Comparative Legal Guides (ICLG) recently published an insightful article by Wesley Misson and Trent E. Lindsay, reviewing the fund finance market in 2023 and looking forward to 2024. Despite banking failures and elevated interest rates, the sector adapted, providing a stable market environment but raising the stakes for future allocations and investment strategies. With changes in capital structures and lending dynamics, the piece forecasts a more cautious but opportunistic entry into 2024. https://lnkd.in/eb67Xg_n #FundFinance #FundFinancing #FundFinancer
