“Significantly, a growing number of democracy advocate organizations are sprouting up around the world to fix, what they call, a broken political system. “Unfortunately what they mean by that, is to try to fix how elections work,” says Liebman. “ What if the real problem is not with elections, and politics, but with money. And finance. Specifically, fiduciary money. And fiduciary finance. And what if the root cause of this root problem with fiduciary finance is a breakdown of fiduciary accountability to our shared common sense. And what if the root cause of this breakdown in fiduciary accountability is a breakdown of common sense, and the loss of common knowledge of the purpose, the powers, the possibilities and the accountability of the fiduciary stewards of social trusts for the social purposes of socially provisioning the social safety nets of Workplace Pensions and Civil Society Endowments. What if at the very deepest root, the problem is that we let experts in the capital markets steal our common sense, and replace it with their expert knowledge. What if the expertise of capital markets professionals is not the expertise we really need to hold the fiduciary stewards of fiduciary money properly accountable for authenticity and integrity in their exercise of their fiduciary powers true to their fiduciary purposes. How might we find the expertise we really need? Could citizens assemblies for debating questions of care (prudence) and caring (loyalty) be the way?
