For this week's #PlaysWithWords we're looking for two rhyming words: A device used to pick up the dog’s droppings? TIP: Brand names that rhyme stick for sure. In consumers' minds, they endure. https://lnkd.in/evp_CNF

👕 As an OG J.Crew fan, who rushed upstairs to my bedroom with the latest catalog, this warms my heart! Lets goooo!!! Here at #bungee we have always had a saying that "what is old is new again." We are serial behavior watchers and in 2019, we began to see a shift and desire away from all things digital and homogenous ➡ tactile and handmade. Now this doesn't mean we abandon digital--but the pendulum is shifting (as it does) back to the middle. Even Amazon sends the Christmas catalog (its giving Toys-R-Us vibes) In house here, we have had our multi-generational focus group (Boomers to Gen Z and beyond!) and its so cool to see how excited Gen Z gets when they get something in the mail 😭 What do you think? Are you seeing this shift, too? PS: J.Crew please add me to your mailing list and give this girl some serious 90s nostalgia #CustomerExperience #MarketingTrends #BrandCohesion #DirectMail #GenZ #ConsumerBehavior #DigitalMarketing #TactileMarketing #NostalgiaMarketing #MarketingStrategy #Ecommerce #RetailTrends #BrandStrategy #Innovation

Don't be Laura Linney with her tin of hot cocoa kids 🍫 We always hear about what works in marketing, but humorous reminders of what doesn't are just as important - and more fun. This clip from 'The Truman Show,' one of the best movies ever (& one that stays relevant as time goes on- perhaps another lesson in marketing for another post) teaches us to: #1 Read the room. Aka do your research- this is ongoing btw. #2 Know your audience. Yep, ongoing too. The recent bankruptcy of The Body Shop is perhaps the most recent example of even a well-established audience's needs shifting. #3 Avoid coming across as tone-def. Not that hard if you're doing #1 & #2 or hiring someone who is. And when you do mess up (because let's face it, it's inevitable), laugh at yourself—it's fixable! More than that, there's probably another marketing opportunity in there to make fun of yourself and not only win back hearts but win over more of 'em. #marketinghumor #knowyouraudience

Let's say you've got two names under consideration for your new computer company, Apple and Strawberry. Both names meet your baseline brand positioning criteria: Simple, warm, human, approachable, organic, disruptive. Half of your team champions Apple, and the other half loves Strawberry. It's pointed out that the names couldn't be more similar—they are both red fruits. So why not flip a coin and move on? The Chief Obfuscation Officer calls for a month of testing, reliably in the unreliable form of crowdsourcing or focus groups. At this point, you become the hero by jumping up and shouting, "I demand an A.S.S. test!" A test that takes minutes to complete. Read on: https://lnkd.in/dNCykPwt
Choosing a brand name? Do an A.S.S. count.

🤔 Does limited packaging sell? Sprite are launching their limited edition packaging for their 'Obey Your Thirst' campaign, 30 years after its initial introduction in 1994. It's a little bit nifty with an added QR code giving consumers access to ‘Obey Days’, a digital hub featuring fashion, arts, music, entertainment, and sports and more. There's definitely a reason brands opt for it. Scarcity does sell. It helps to create a sense of urgency and FOMO; users should grab one before it runs out. What are your thoughts on limited edition packaging? Would you reach for limited edition packaging over the usual? #LimitedEditionPackaging #DesignAgency

Cassette tapes are clawing their way back... Not only are they in demand, but sales are being led by Gen Z buyers. For example, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” sold 21,500 cassettes. And bands with younger audiences tend to see more cassette sales. It turns out that shows like “Stranger Things” played a role in repopularizing tech. Plus, new brands have been releasing cool-looking players. What could this signal mean? Is it another indicator of the importance of nostalgia? Or could it mean something else? If we think of community, buying a cassette is an easy way to show your peers what kind of interests you have. Think of it like the hipster movement of the past (not me wearing a flannel, tight jeans, and combat boots). Rocking a small, affordable object like a cassette tape is yet another way you can stand out in a crowded digital space, and a sea of iPhones. What other objects might create community and connection, or at the least, take you back in time? We break down that and other ideas in this week’s SCAN 👀 CLUB: https://lnkd.in/gpg37cij

I remember I went to an interview and the recruiter asked me what I call a 'trick question'. The question was, "If there's a stapler and it had no staples, how and what else would you use the stapler for?". My answers: A. I would create the staples (The recruiter side-eyed me. Simply because that seems far-fetched. But the reality I live in is that I create what I want because I live with and see people who create things with their God-crafted hands. That is why Bend Nails is here. #BendNailsSouthAfrica B. We would disassemble it with the learners, label it and put it back together. C. I would buy new staples. D. I would use the stapler as an art (There's this video I saw on TikTok of a man who creates 3D art using every type of material. From afar it looks like the bird, or a clock etc. However when you look closer, you see that imperfection also has a perfection. E. I would use the stapler as a name tag on the desk or door "Teacher Phiri's class". Because Jehovah created us and we create because He creates/d.

Ever wonder how brands trick you into buying more? Consider this: Scenario 1: A T-shirt priced at $50 with a $10 off. Scenario 2: The same T-shirt is labeled "20% off." Which one grabs your attention more? The second option, right? That’s because 20% sounds like a bigger deal. Another mind game brands play? Phonetic discounting. Research shows that numbers with fewer syllables seem smaller, making discounts seem bigger than they actually are. But it doesn’t stop there. Decoy pricing is everywhere—think about the last time you bought popcorn at the movies: → Small: $3.99 → Medium: $5.99 → Large: $6.99 That tiny gap between medium and large? It’s there to make the large size look like the best deal, nudging you to spend more. In the end? These tactics manipulate your perception to push higher-priced items.
