Aspen Power Completes Six Solar Projects in Pennsylvania, Generating 25.5 MW and Creating 480 Jobs Aspen Power, a leading distributed generation platform dedicated to building the clean energy future, has completed six solar projects totaling 25.5 megawatts (MW) direct current (dc) of generation capacity in Pennsylvania. The projects are expected to produce up to 37 million kilowatt-hours electricity in their first year of operation. Clearway Energy Group has officially powered up its 147 MW Rosamond Central Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kern County, California. This marks Clearway’s latest addition to its impressive 850 MW BESS portfolio. Paired with the 192 MW Rosamond Central solar farm, completed in 2020, this retrofit underscores Clearway’s commitment to enhancing renewable energy capabilities. The $400 million project, featuring four-hour lithium-ion batteries, represents Clearway's first battery retrofit. Construction was spearheaded by Rosendin, with Wärtsilä supplying the battery systems. Rosamond Central BESS is contracted with Southern California Edison (SCE) under a long-term resource adequacy agreement, ensuring balanced supply and demand across the electric grid. Renewable energy is on the rise in New Hampshire! Unitil Corporation has commenced site work on a 4.9 MW solar energy project in Kingston, New Hampshire, marking the largest project of its kind in the state. This project, featuring 11,232 panels on 36 acres of vacant land, represents a significant step forward in sustainable energy practices. It will be the first solar array owned and operated by a regulated distribution utility company in New Hampshire, showcasing Unitil's commitment to renewable energy leadership in the region. Set to be completed in 2025, this project will be constructed near an electrical substation, directly feeding into Unitil’s electric distribution system. This strategic placement will reduce the amount of energy the utility receives from the transmission system, enhancing efficiency and reliability. Solar represents 58 percent of expected capacity additions in 2024, and batteries take second place with 23 percent of the mix. In a record-breaking second quarter, US developers added 11GW of new utility-scale clean power capacity, marking a 91% increase on Q2 2023, according to an American Clean Power Association (ACP) report. It revealed “extraordinary growth and milestones” across the US clean power landscape. For the first time, Texas has surpassed California as the nation's leading state for utility-scale solar capacity, with 1656MW added this quarter, Texas now boasts of 21,932MW of operating solar power. AMPYR Energy USA has acquired two large-scale solar projects in North Carolina and South Carolina with a combined capacity of 210 MWp. AMPYR Energy USA’s latest acquisition bolsters its renewables pipeline in the country, which currently totals 4 GW. The two new projects are in the advanced stages of development.
