After many twists, turns, and setbacks, the formalisation of how responsible business is defined in Europe is due to be decided tomorrow. Although from its inception until this decisive moment, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD) has gone through some critical -and mostly unfortunate - changes, at its core, it provides a unique opportunity to direct our businesses to create a different human-centric and nature-respecting economy that resets its expected contribution to our society. Katie (Katharine) Hill , B Lab's co-chair, former CEO of B Lab Europe, and co-founder of the #InterdependenceCoalition, described this critical chance to reset the DNA of business through EU legislation at TEDxVarese, Italy in November last year. Watch it here 👉 https://bit.ly/3TA980b While some key provisions, including the Duty of Care of Directors, have since been deleted from the revised text, the potential to change the behaviour of over 20 million European companies remains. In sharing it today, we encourage our European policymakers to realise the CSDDD's transformative power and embrace it as a catalyst for a better future for all. It's not too late to pave the way for change. Yet. We have enough evidence of leaders amongst the 540 advocates who comprise the #InterdependenceCoalition that this is part of a superior and sustainable way of operating a business. Equitable economies start with looking after those in the supply chains who directly contribute to the success of the company. Any company will only thrive if all its contributors also thrive. This is the kind of success in business Europe needs to champion.
